This role Senior Operations Engineer - Hosting supports Hosting Operations through patching, vulnerability remediation, and security improvement initiatives across Aurecon’s server environments. The initial focus is on reducing aged vulnerabilities, coordinating remediation activities, engaging stakeholders, and maintaining audit and compliance evidence.

Over time, the role will expand into broader Hosting BAU responsibilities, including infrastructure operations, incident and problem management, monitoring, backup and recovery, change implementation, and continuous improvement across on-premises and cloud platforms.

The role offers a pathway for technology professionals to develop their infrastructure, cloud, and Hosting Operations expertise while contributing to Aurecon's security and operational objectives.

Key responsibilities

Patching, Vulnerability & Security Remediation

• Coordinate and execute patching and vulnerability remediation activities across Aurecon's server environments.
• Review vulnerability scan results and determine appropriate remediation approaches.
• Prioritise remediation activities based on risk, exploitability, business impact, and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate with Application, Security, Digital, and Infrastructure teams to drive remediation outcomes.
• Ensure remediation evidence is captured and maintained for audit and compliance purposes.
• Support the reduction of aged vulnerabilities and identify opportunities to improve security posture.

Hosting Operations

• Resolve incidents and problems related to Hosting infrastructure, ensuring timely restoration of services.
• Support server and virtual machine lifecycle activities, including provisioning, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning.
• Perform monitoring, operational health checks, and capacity management activities to maintain service reliability.
• Support backup, recovery, and restoration activities across on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Ensure compliance with incident, problem, change, and event management processes.
• Maintain operational documentation, knowledge articles, and support procedures.

Stakeholder & Service Management

• Act as a key point of contact for vulnerability remediation and operational support activities.
• Work closely with Security, Application, Infrastructure, Digital, and Platform teams.
• Communicate technical risks, remediation plans, and operational impacts in business-relevant terms.
• Support service transition, operational readiness, and handover activities for new services and infrastructure changes.

Continuous Improvement & Automation

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational and remediation activities.
• Contribute to improvements in patching, monitoring, reporting, and operational processes.
• Develop and maintain standards, runbooks, and operating procedures.
• Support knowledge sharing and capability uplift across the Hosting team.
• Contribute to operational and security improvement initiatives across Hosting environments.

Key challenges and complexities of role

• Balancing vulnerability remediation priorities with Hosting BAU operational support while maintaining service stability.
• Coordinating remediation outcomes across multiple technology teams without direct authority.
• Managing security, operational, and compliance requirements across hybrid on-premises and cloud hosting environments.
• Prioritising competing operational, project, and remediation activities within agreed service levels and change windows.
• Driving continuous improvement through automation, standardisation, and process optimisation while supporting day-to-day operations.

Essential skills and experience

• Demonstrated senior-level experience operating in complex enterprise environments
• Strong understanding of end-to-end vulnerability management, including identification, prioritisation, remediation, validation, and reporting
• Ability to determine appropriate remediation approaches (OS patching, application upgrade, configuration change, or compensating controls)
• Broad technical literacy across:

• Windows and Linux operating systems
• Web servers (IIS, Apache, NGINX)
• Application and middleware platforms
• SSL/TLS, certificates, cipher suites, and encryption standards

• Strong experience interpreting vulnerability scan outputs (e.g. Tenable)
• Proven ability to lead remediation initiatives through influence, not authority
• Strong analytical skills balancing security risk, service stability, and business impact
• Demonstrated experience coordinating or leading technical teams
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
• Ability to communicate technical risk in clear, business-relevant terms
• Organised, outcome-focused, and comfortable operating under pressure

Hosting Operations & Infrastructure

• Experience supporting Windows Server administration, troubleshooting, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Experience supporting monitoring, backup and recovery, and operational support processes.
• Understanding of incident, problem, change, and service request management within ITIL-aligned environments.
• Exposure to infrastructure automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell, Ansible, or equivalent tools.
• Experience supporting server provisioning, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning activities.

Desirable

• Exposure to Hosting Operations, Infrastructure Support, Service Desk, Workplace Technology, or Cloud Operations environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Security, infrastructure, or cloud certifications highly regarded
• Experience managing large-scale enterprise hosting environments
• Experience working in ISO governed or similar environments
