We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!
Why This Role?
We're hiring a Senior HR Business Partner to help Cohere scale through an extraordinary phase of growth, partnering with leaders and teams across our global technology organization.
A role that matters. Senior HRBPs are central to our People model — trusted advisors to senior leaders, brought into our most important organizational challenges, and expected to bring a strong point of view.
A front-row seat to AI. Work alongside exceptional researchers, engineers, and technical leaders at the forefront of AI — some of the most talented and in-demand people in the industry.
A chance to build. We're building the foundations of our People function at scale, with significant white space and latitude to shape how we partner, organize, and operate.
Significant scope and influence. You'll partner with senior technical leaders on complex organizational questions, helping them scale their organizations, strengthen leadership, and make great decisions about people and teams.
An exciting moment to join. We're scaling incredibly quickly, with strong pull from the business for People partnership and no shortage of high-impact problems to solve.
Our titles are deliberately flat - this role reports to the Head of HR. We're looking for an experienced, senior HRBP who can operate with significant autonomy, navigate complexity, and be a credible thought partner to senior leaders.
You'll thrive if you:
Build deep trust: Establish credibility with senior leaders and become a sought-after thought partner
Navigate complexity: Bring clarity and judgment to difficult, ambiguous organizational challenges
Think organizationally: Look beyond individual issues to patterns, systems, and the health of the broader organization
Hold high standards: Combine ambition and candor with empathy and pragmatism
Think and do: Move seamlessly between strategic partnership and hands-on execution
You'll help drive:
Organizational design: Shape structures, roles, and operating models as teams scale
Leadership: Coach senior leaders and strengthen leadership effectiveness
Talent: Lead performance, talent, succession, and critical talent discussions
Organizational health: Identify and address engagement, retention, capability, and team effectiveness challenges
People strategy: Translate business priorities into meaningful people and organizational strategies
Building at scale: Help shape the practices and approaches our People function needs for the next stage of growth
We're looking for someone who:
Has significant HRBP experience: Has operated at senior or Director-level HRBP scope, Head of People scope, or equivalent
Knows technical organizations: Has partnered with Engineering, Research, Product, Applied AI, or similarly technical teams
Has scaled: Has worked in a startup, scale-up, or other high-growth environment
Thinks globally: Has partnered with leaders and teams across multiple countries and regions
Writes exceptionally well: Clear, concise written communication is core to how we operate and influence
Is pro-team: Collaborative, low-ego, and invested in making the whole team better
Location
This is a global, remote role. You'll partner across a distributed organization and should be comfortable building strong relationships and operating effectively across locations and time zones.
A note on our hiring timelines
📌 This is an active role, but we're currently building our talent pipeline so we're ready to move quickly once we have capacity to begin interviewing.
At this stage, we're reviewing and shortlisting applications rather than scheduling interviews, so we aren't able to provide individual timelines or application status updates. If you're selected to move forward, we'll reach out as soon as we're ready to begin the interview process.
To help us keep the process fair and efficient, we kindly ask that you don't follow up with the hiring team directly, as we won't have additional updates to share until interviews begin. Thank you for your patience — we're looking forward to connecting when the process gets underway.
