Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Civil/Road Engineer to join our Civil Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, engineering, and coordination of all road infrastructure, including access roads, internal plant roads, heavy haul roads, and paved areas for large-scale oil & gas and industrial projects. The role covers both greenfield and brownfield developments from concept through detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of roads, paving, and associated infrastructure from conceptual stage through detailed design and construction.
  • Prepare road alignment, geometric design, pavement design, and cross-sections in accordance with international standards and project requirements.
  • Perform pavement design calculations for flexible and rigid pavements, considering traffic loading (including heavy equipment and abnormal loads), soil conditions, and environmental factors.
  • Design road drainage systems, including surface drainage, culverts, ditches, and stormwater networks, ensuring integration with overall site grading and underground utilities.
  • Prepare technical specifications, material take-offs (MTOs), and scope of work documents for road construction packages.
  • Review and approve road layouts, longitudinal and cross profiles, and detail drawings.
  • Coordinate closely with other disciplines (Structural, Process, Pipelines, Electrical, and Instrumentation) to resolve road-related interfaces and clashes.
  • Ensure all road designs comply with relevant international standards (AASHTO, BS, ASTM, Iraqi standards, etc.) and Company specifications.
  • Provide technical support during tendering, including preparation of technical bid evaluations and responses to contractor queries.
  • Support construction phase by reviewing method statements, material submissions, and resolving site technical queries related to roads and paving.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize road design while maintaining safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree in Highway/Road Engineering is preferred).
  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant experience in road and pavement design, preferably in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Strong experience in both greenfield and brownfield road projects, including heavy haul roads and plant internal roads.
  • Proficiency in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, or equivalent.
  • Solid knowledge of pavement design methods (AASHTO, DMRB, or local standards) and geotechnical input for road design.
  • Familiarity with drainage design, culvert design, and road safety standards.
  • Experience in preparing technical specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documents.
  • Good understanding of construction methods and materials for roads and paving in hot/arid climates is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary project teams.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working in the Middle East (especially Iraq or UAE) is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Iraqi road design standards and regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight project schedules.
