About the client
A US-based direct-to-consumer subscription brand. Small, fast-moving team where people wear several hats and things ship quickly. The client name is shared with shortlisted candidates.
About the role
This is the first and only HR hire, so you own the entire people function end to end. That means payroll, onboarding, employee records, policy, and every hire the company makes. You are not inheriting a system. You are building one that works for a lean US team and a distributed group of contractors.
What you'll own
- Payroll and benefits. Run the monthly and semi-monthly cycles, keep contractor and employee payments accurate and on time, and handle changes, corrections, and records.
- Hiring. Full cycle, from writing the job post to sourcing, screening, scheduling, offers, and closing. You keep the pipeline moving without needing to be chased.
- Onboarding and offboarding. Contracts, accounts, equipment, first-week plans, exit checklists.
- HR operations. Employee files, PTO tracking, policy documents, handbook, performance review cadence.
- Employee relations. First point of contact for questions, issues, and anything sensitive.
- Compliance. Keep the company clean on US employment requirements and flag risks before they become problems.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years in HR, with at least 2 of those in a generalist or manager role where you handled both payroll and hiring.
- You have worked for a US-based DTC or ecommerce brand. This is a hard requirement, not a preference. You understand how these teams operate, how fast they hire, and how seasonal the work gets.
- Hands-on experience running payroll through a US platform such as Gusto, Rippling, Wise, Deel etc.
- Full-cycle recruiting experience, including sourcing your own candidates rather than only reviewing inbound.
- Working knowledge of US employment basics: classification, exempt vs non-exempt, offer letters, and standard state-level requirements.
- Comfortable being the only HR person. You make decisions, document them, and follow through without oversight.
Requirements
- Experience working in or recruiting for US-based company mainly DTC brands, digital agencies or marketing agencies,
- Strong headhunting experience is a must
- Ecom experience is a plus
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Benefits
- Competitive salary
- Experience working in an international setting
