VicRoads is progressing too. In August 2022, we started on a new chapter when the Victorian State Government partnered with Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, and Macquarie Asset Management to operate registration and licensing services on its behalf.
We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

In this role, you will partner with business and technology stakeholders to develop architecture strategies, roadmaps, standards, and governance frameworks that support VicRoads' strategic objectives. You'll help ensure technology investments are aligned to business outcomes, drive architecture maturity, and support the modernisation of our technology landscape.
As part of a collaborative and high-performing team, you'll influence strategic decision-making, guide architecture across business and technology domains, and help deliver sustainable, secure, and scalable solutions that create lasting value for the Victorian community.
About the Opportunity
The Architecture team enables VicRoads' digital transformation by providing strategic technology direction, governance, and standards that support business outcomes. The Enterprise Architect works closely with engineering, delivery, and operational teams to develop practical, secure, and scalable architecture solutions, ensuring technology investments align with organisational goals and drive long-term value.
- Strategy and Framework: Support the Head of Architecture in developing and evolving VicRoads' technology strategy, contributing to the enterprise architecture roadmap and leading the delivery of key initiatives within their domain. By maintaining a strong understanding of emerging technologies and industry trends, the Enterprise Architect identifies opportunities to drive innovation, enhance business capabilities, and ensure the technology landscape continues to support VicRoads' strategic objectives.
- Enterprise Architecture: Define and maintain the security architecture principles, standards, and reference models that support VicRoads' digital transformation agenda, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, flexible, and aligned to enterprise objectives. Provide specialist architecture expertise across security domains, partnering closely with Engineering, Cyber Security, and Operations teams to strengthen enterprise capability and inform strategic decision-making. Contribute to architecture governance forums, ensuring technology initiatives align with approved roadmaps, standards, and architectural direction, while providing guidance and assurance to solution delivery teams to support the design and implementation of effective, fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Leadership, architecture practice and mentoring: Support the growth and maturity of the architecture practice by mentoring Domain and Solution Architects and fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and architectural excellence. Promote best practices and knowledge sharing across architecture, security, operational, and business teams, while contributing to capability uplift and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide quality assurance and constructive feedback on architecture deliverables to ensure alignment with governance requirements, standards, and strategic objectives. Partner with the Head of Architecture to measure and demonstrate the business value delivered through architecture, leveraging metrics and insights to drive continual improvement and informed decision-making.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Influence: Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships across technology and business teams to understand organisational priorities, influence decision-making, and ensure architecture outcomes are aligned with business needs. Effectively communicate complex architectural concepts and domain strategies to a broad range of stakeholders, translating technical detail into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
About You
You are an experienced Enterprise Architect with a track record of shaping technology strategy and delivering architecture outcomes within large, complex organisations. You bring deep expertise across multiple architecture disciplines, such as business, information, solution, or technical architecture, and have a strong understanding of how technology can enable organisational transformation and business value.
You have experience developing and delivering enterprise architecture capabilities, ideally within a public sector or similarly complex environment, and are comfortable balancing strategic planning with practical delivery outcomes. Your background includes working within modern cloud environments, particularly AWS, and you have a strong appreciation for security, governance, integration, and operational requirements in enterprise-scale environments.
You are a trusted advisor who can partner effectively with senior stakeholders, technology leaders, delivery teams, and security professionals to solve complex problems and influence strategic decision-making. Experience supporting digital transformation initiatives, mission-critical services, complex integrations, and enterprise security capabilities will be highly regarded.
A degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline is desirable, although equivalent experience will also be considered. Industry certifications such as TOGAF, COBIT, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, or similar architecture, cloud, and security credentials will be highly regarded.
