Job Summary
A rapidly growing division of Nidec Motor Corporation seeks candidates to fill an Engineer IV position, in St. Louis, MO. Nidec is the world's leading manufacturer of small precision motors, including motors used in hard disk drives and optical disk drives (including Blu-ray disk drives). The company has extended its focus beyond the information storage motor market to the industrial, home appliance, and automotive markets, where it sees high future growth potential. Nidec Motor Corporation is primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of industrial and high efficiency motors in applications ranging from water treatment, mining, oil and gas, power generation, air conditioning, rooftop cooling towers and commercial refrigeration. Responsibilities Include:
- Conceive, Design, and analyze motor components for compliance to stated requirements.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of new and existing designs to determine strength, temperature, and reliability characteristics.
- Work with Project Manager and cross-functional teams to understand project goals, objectives, and to work toward meeting stated deliverables and schedule deadlines.
- Create new component and assembly drawings per established Standards and Guidelines.
- Create additional product specifications (e.g., manufacturing instructions, test procedures, material specs).
- Utilize New Model and ECO process to create new BOM’s and revise established designs.
- Work with procurement to obtain quotes and qualify suppliers, and to approve components per the FPA process.
- Prepare reports and presentations for customers both internal/external.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- BS Mechanical Engineering, MS Preferred
- 2D/3D CAD (Pro/Engineer preferred, Solid Edge a plus)
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA), utilizing Ansys (preferred) or similar software
Mechanical Stress and Fatigue
Fluid Dynamics
Heat Transfer
Rotor Dynamics
- Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proven Communication and Presentation skills

- Design for Die Casting, Metal Forming, Machining, and Injection Molding
- Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Agency qualification testing (UL, CSA, IEEE)
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis (2D/3D). CETol software experience a plus
