Sobre este puesto de Corporate Counsel en David Protein
Company:
Medici Brands is the parent company of David, Epogee, HallPass and several emerging brands launching in the near future. Medici Brands is led by CEO Peter Rahal, Co-founder and former CEO of RXBAR, and is focused on building brands that break the tradeoffs between taste and nutrition that have classically existed.
Role:
We’re hiring a Corporate Counsel to support building the legal foundation of the company. You’ll be the second in-house legal hire, reporting to the General Counsel and responsible for supporting David’s growth by managing risk, negotiating commercial contracts, advising on a variety of corporate matters, including IP, employment, compliance, privacy and data security, and establishing scalable legal processes. Beyond substantive legal work, you will leverage technology and automation to modernize how the team operates.
This is a cross-functional, high-ownership role where you’ll need to prioritize what matters most, communicate clearly, and solve problems quickly. You’ll be the General Counsel’s right hand, working side by side to own legal execution across the company, managing outside counsel and internal workflows. We’re a young, fast-moving company, so you’ll wear many hats and build a lot from scratch.
Responsibilities:
- Review, draft and negotiate commercial contracts of varying complexity, including manufacturing, supply, distribution, vendor, influencer, talent, confidentiality, SaaS, licensing and partnership agreements.
- Manage the Legal Department’s contract lifecycle process end-to-end, including evaluating, implementing and optimizing AI tools that reduce manual contract administration.
- Counsel colleagues on a wide variety of legal issues, including employment law, privacy/data security, marketing, compliance, intellectual property and general corporate matters.
- Create and implement company-wide and Legal Department templates, policies and processes - building repeatable, scalable systems rather than one-off documents.
- Drive legal operations for the department, including contract management and vendor approvals, the legal technology stack and identifying and implementing leverage through AI and automation.
- Manage IP brand protection monitoring and IP portfolio maintenance, using tooling to scale coverage efficiently.
- Review and advise on marketing and advertising campaigns, influencer partnerships, and social media campaigns.
- Manage and liaise with a roster of external counsel when additional support or expertise is needed.
Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in New York.
- 3-5 years of experience, ideally a mix of top-tier firm and in-house (CPG experience strongly preferred).
- Analytical and creative mindset.
- Strong work ethic and ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
- Strength in commercial contract negotiation.
- Familiarity with FDA labeling, food compliance, and marketing law is a nice to have.
- Experience supporting legal work for a growth-stage company (either at a top-tier firm or in-house).
- Strong communication skills and a practical approach to legal risk.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a low-ego, get-it-done attitude.
- Comfort working independently, but willing to jump into the weeds when needed.
- Excitement about building an early-stage CPG company.
- An entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves builder’s mindset — no task too big or too small, and energized by creating structure where none exists yet.
- AI-savvy, with a track record of using modern tools to work faster and smarter.
