The Construction Superintendent is responsible for managing and directing all field operations associated with assigned construction projects. This position serves as the primary on-site leader and is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, managing daily construction activities, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety requirements, and ensuring quality workmanship.

Depending on project requirements, the Superintendent may also serve in a dual-hat or triple-hat capacity as the Project Quality Control Manager (QCM) and/or Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). When assigned, the Superintendent is responsible for implementing and administering project-specific Quality Control and Safety programs in compliance with contract requirements, EM 385-1-1 standards, company policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with project specifications and contract requirements.

Essential Functions:

Field Operations Management:

  • Manage and direct day-to-day field operations on assigned construction projects.
  • Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all onsite construction activities.
  • Maintain organized, professional, and productive jobsite conditions.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve obstacles affecting schedule, quality, or productivity.
  • Coordinate workforce, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to support project objectives.

Quality Control and Safety Management (When Assigned):

  • Serve as the project's Quality Control Manager (QCM) and/or Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) when designated.
  • Implement and maintain the Project Quality Control Plan and Accident Prevention Plan.
  • Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections.
  • Maintain quality control documentation, deficiency logs, testing records, and project closeout documentation.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and activity hazard analyses (AHAs).
  • Lead toolbox safety meetings and site safety orientations.
  • Coordinate directly with Government Quality Assurance Representatives, Owner Representatives, and Third-Party Inspectors.
  • Maintain compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist.
  • Ensure timely correction and documentation of quality and safety deficiencies.

Project Execution and Schedule Management:

  • Develop and maintain short-term construction schedules and look-ahead plans.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly work activities with subcontractors and project teams.
  • Monitor project milestones and production goals to ensure schedule performance.
  • Identify potential delays and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to support project budgeting, planning, and execution efforts.
  • Participate in project startup, progress reviews, and closeout activities.

Construction Coordination:

  • Coordinate trade activities and sequencing to ensure efficient workflow and minimize conflicts.
  • Conduct daily coordination meetings and communicate project priorities, constraints, and upcoming work activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure proper field execution.
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and design discrepancies.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
  • Verify materials and equipment are delivered and available to support scheduled operations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate daily reports documenting manpower, work activities, weather conditions, equipment usage, and project progress.
  • Document field conditions, delays, incidents, and project challenges.
  • Assist with Requests for Information (RFIs), change management documentation, and project correspondence.
  • Maintain project records and support contract compliance requirements.
  • Provide regular project updates to management and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit daily reports documenting project progress, manpower, equipment utilization, weather impacts, visitors, inspections, and significant jobsite activities.

Requirements

Certifications:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
  • 24-Hour Fall Protection Training
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) Certification.
  • EM 385-1-1 Certification

Clearance/ Security:

Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and maintain eligibility for access to Federal facilities, military installations, and other government-controlled work sites. Must be able to obtain and maintain any required credentials, badges, or security authorizations necessary to perform assigned duties.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Direct supervision of field personnel, Assistant Superintendents, laborers, and subcontractors assigned to the project. Responsible for coordinating and directing all onsite construction activities while ensuring compliance with project quality, safety, and scheduling requirements.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This role must have the ability to visit and walk active construction sites, climb ladders, work on uneven terrain, and access various areas of active construction projects. Must be capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and exposure to construction-related noise, dust, and environmental conditions. Additionally, the individual must be able to travel frequently to project locations and lift up to 50 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time exempt position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 6:30a.m. to 4:00 p.m., overtime may be required occasionally. Salary will be based on a 45 hour work week.

Travel:

Travel of approximately 50-75% may be required based on project assignment, project location, and duration. Extended project-site assignments may be required.
