Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

As a Unit Claims Manager for the Dispute Management Team, you will play a pivotal role as a key member of the Claims management team within Accident Benefits. This role would be ideal for someone with Accident Benefits experience who is seeking to progress their leadership and technical career. 

Working in our hybrid model, locations can be in either of the following offices: Ajax, Toronto, Richmond Hill or Mississauga. As part of leading a partially virtual team, you will on occasion need to travel to other company locations.  

What you’ll do here: 

• Lead and manage a team of Dispute Management adjusters responsible for handling LAT disputes and overseeing the resolution process. 

• Act in a consultative and advisory capacity on complex claims matters that are in dispute, such as policy interpretation and settlement negotiation to help resolve contentious claims-related issues. 

• Participate in the development and implementation of business plans and manage operations to achieve key business goals. 

• Provide strong effective leadership, motivate staff and be responsible for hiring and delivering employee performance feedback. 

• Provide coaching on technical and professional skills for your team and facilitate continuous learning by building robust development plans for your employees. 

• Develop, recommend and implement management and/or organizational initiatives to support company strategies including changes to data processing accuracy, improving work processes, and technology improvements. 

• Liaise with other claims experts on technical and administrative issues. 

• Maintain a respectful and productive business relationship with vendors, service providers, legal firms and internal client groups. 

• Ongoing reporting on KPIs, metrics and unit audits to provide analytical analysis and oversight on emerging trends. 

• Ensure accurate validation, payment of the bi-annual LAT bills, and report on costs. 

What you bring to the table: 

• A minimum of 5 years prior work experience in Accident Benefits, with substantive experience in handling all level of claims that are in dispute through Mediation, Arbitration or Litigation 

• 2 years experience in management with proven leadership skills in performance management and developing of staff 

• University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role 

• Experience leading change initiatives with impacts to large groups 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff 

• Knowledge of provincial legislation governing Accident Benefits, including the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule and the LAT Common Rules of Practice & Procedure 

• Completed or are working toward a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation 

• Excellent customer service skills 

• Proficiency in Excel
