Summary

The RFO is primarily responsible for the operation of one melting furnace that melts a combination of raw materials to supply molten metal to CMWA on a continuous basis. The RFO must understand the complex operation of a melting furnace, the quality requirements of the incoming materials, CMWA specifications, and the balance of the scheduling of charging of the materials to meet the continuous volume demand and maintain the furnace temperature so that the ladle temperature delivery specification is met.

What You'll Do

  • Operates a conventional reverb furnace.
  • Conduct inspection of raw materials and check charge mixes before charging.
  • Coordinates furnace times and temperature with ladle Team Members.
  • Provides furnace assistance (i.e. Charging, proper pump speeds and alloying)
  • Monitors furnace molten metal level.
  • Charges CMWA chips into the furnace.
  • Operates front end loader.
  • Charges crushed wheels into the furnace.
  • Operates the crushed wheel feeder.
  • Transfers molten metal form one furnace to the primary furnace.
  • Fills sow molds from the ladle and skim.
  • Operates a fork truck with a rotating mast.
  • Understands sow mold preparation.
  • Understands aluminum sow quality requirements.
  • Removes solidified sows safely.
  • Operates pin pusher to remove sow pins.
  • Operates scales to weigh sows.
  • Identification procedure for sow marking.
  • Proper stacking, transportation, and storage of finished sows.
  • Ladle preparation.
  • Pre-heating a ladle.
  • Cleaning of the ladle.
  • Operates chip feeder.
  • Operates and cleans the Lotuss Bowl.
  • Charges CMWA scrap wheels into the furnace.
  • Operates vibrating wheel feeder and wheel dumper.
  • Stages T-Bars and sows for pre-heating.
  • Operates furnace pre-heat system and setting of push time.
  • Skims the ladles and take chemistry samples.
  • Checks chemistry, egg cup and K-Mold samples.
  • Understands molten metal quality requirements and KST standards. (Work Instructions)
  • Spectro operation and A356 Aluminum chemistry specifications.
  • Operates RATS machine and K-Mold preparation process.
  • Manages Melting furnace.
  • Understands furnace MMI/PLC interface and operation logic.
  • Inspects nitrogen settings, pump speeds and vent hoods for proper set points.
  • Furnace exhaust – ensures proper operation of exhaust/smoke hoods.
  • Gas injection pump operation – ensures gas is properly injected into the molten bath.
  • Furnace sampling – ensures samples are taken; alloy check samples are taken every two hours or after charging any suspicious materials.
  • Dross handling (skimming/shipping) – ensures dross is properly removed from molten aluminum bath; inspect dross room for reusable materials.
  • Housekeeping – maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition (i.e. mobile equipment checks and inspections).
  • Documentation – maintains and monitors accurate operational records (i.e. charge sheet accuracy, Shared logic software proficient).
  • Coordinates with maintenance department and Group Leader regarding work on plant equipment (i.e. furnaces, etc.)
  • Suggests methods for improving product quality or design or manufacturing processes.
  • Serves as First Responder (see below).
  • Other duties as assigned.

FIRST RESPONDER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides initial medical treatment in life-threatening medical emergency or in a non-life-threatening medical emergency until EMT’s arrive to provide the next level of medical care.
  • Proficiently trained and certified in CPR, AED, First Aid and Emergency Rescue.
  • Proficiently trained in Use of Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Response, Bloodborne Pathogens, and the Hazardous Materials specific to SKT operation.
  • Complies with company’s written PPE Plan, BBP Plan and the Standards of Occupational Health & Safety Administration and related State of Kentucky Statutes.
