About this role

Responsible for providing leadership, guidance, quality assurance, and direction to advising staff and projects. Works closely with the academic and career communities to support guided pathways. Oversees designated pathways coordination, implementation and evaluation of student retention programs. Provides student program expertise to staff; researches and resolves student complaints.

What a day of a Student Development Manager looks like:

  • Guides, leads, reviews, verifies, observes, and manages the work of people reporting directly and indirectly to you. Monitors and evaluates the performance of your employees.

  • Performs process improvement and efficiency analysis to provide exceptional service, identifies opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings, and implements improvements to benefit the student experience.

  • Identifies areas of weakness or need for improvements then builds and implements solutions that align with processes and strategies while positioning professional advising staff to work with faculty to support student’s needs.

  • Administers, manages and coordinates one or more advising programs and events. Evaluates the unit relative to its mission and suggest ways services may be refined. Maintains an advising caseload within designated pathway, as needed.

  • Models behaviors in the program that result in establishing and maintaining a positive, respectful, appropriate environment.

  • Advises students as to course of study, particular course offerings, necessary testing, and prerequisites. Assists them in selection of a major or program, course selections, assignments, scheduling, and placement.

  • Reviews transcripts of transfer students for the purpose of course placement. Assists in understanding educational, personal, and occupational strengths and limitations.

  • Provides information to the public, students, and staff regarding programs and services of a department, campus, or College. Advises students on college related matters.

  • Prepares required reports for various internal and external requests. Designs and creates training content and materials for topic presentations.

  • Maintains current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings and professional events outside of college locations, as needed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

We’d love to hear from you if you have the following:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, college counseling, or related field of study

  • Four years of related experience

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state statutes, and rules of higher education

  • Advising and student retention platforms

Skilled in:                

  • Motivating employees to apply the effort necessary to attain organizational and departmental goals

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

  • Research and data analysis to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action

Ability to:

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Travel to other campus locations

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

  • Some periods throughout the year will require extended work hours including nights, weekends, and college closures

Preferred, but not a must:

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with Workday Student

  • Experience with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education and implementing best practices

  • Supervisory experience

Knowledge of:

  • NACADA Core Values for Advising or Career Readiness Competencies

Ability:

  • Bilingual speaking

  • National Certified Counselor (NCC)

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $57,778.00 annually; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
