Structural Steel Yard Material Handler
Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift
Starting Pay: $22/hour, higher depending on experience
2nd Shift Differential: +$3/hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a Material Handler to help keep structural steel production and yard operations running efficiently. This hands-on position involves moving and staging steel, preparing materials for fabrication and shipment, operating heavy material-handling equipment, and maintaining a safe and organized work area.
What You'll Do
Move structural steel and other materials throughout the shop and yard.
Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and Pettibone/telehandler equipment.
Load, unload, stage, and secure materials for production or shipment.
Jockey trailers and help maintain an organized and accessible yard.
Skid, position, and prepare steel and other materials for shipment.
Operate additional shop and production equipment as needed.
Clean steel parts and materials before fabrication or shipping.
Assist with inventory activities, supply tracking, and material movement.
Coordinate with production crews and outside teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
Follow equipment operating procedures, safety requirements, and proper material-handling practices.
Maintain dependable attendance and contribute to an efficient team environment.
Qualifications
Hands-on experience operating overhead cranes.
Experience with Pettibone/telehandler equipment.
Ability to safely operate forklifts and other industrial equipment.
Previous material handling or warehouse experience preferred.
Structural steel experience is a plus.
Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions.
Ability to safely lift, move, and position heavy materials.
Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
Willingness to learn and operate additional equipment as needed.
