About this Staff Product Designer role at Imprint

Imprint · Hybrid · New York City

Who We Are

Imprint helps the world's best brands grow the lifetime value of their customers. We started with co-branded credit cards and rebuilt them to be smarter, more rewarding, and brand-first. We partner with companies like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, Fetch, and Shell to launch modern credit programs that deepen loyalty, unlock savings, and drive growth. But the card is just the beginning. We combine advanced payments infrastructure, intelligent underwriting, and deep customer data to create delightful and personalized experiences for members as well as efficient and profitable relationships for our brand partners. Our robust technology and world-class operations allow us and our brand partners to offer powerful financial products without becoming a bank.

In the U.S., co-branded cards alone account for over $300 billion in annual spend, and most still run on decades-old legacy bank systems. Imprint is the modern alternative: flexible, embeddable, and built for how people actually pay today. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, Ribbit, and Khosla Ventures, we're building a world-class team to redefine how people pay and how brands grow. If you want to move fast, solve hard problems, and own real outcomes, we want to meet you.

As a Staff Product Designer, you'll shape the future of Imprint's member experiences, leading complex product initiatives from discovery through execution. You'll combine exceptional design craft with strategic thinking and strong product judgment to identify opportunities, simplify complex problems, and deliver intuitive, high-impact solutions. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering, you'll influence product direction, champion exceptional user experiences, and raise the bar for design craft, collaboration, and decision-making across the organization.

What You’ll Do

Shape Product Strategy & Direction

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to identify high-impact opportunities grounded in customer needs, business goals, and product insights.

  • Proactively define problems, challenge assumptions, and influence product priorities and direction.

  • Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives from early discovery through launch and iteration.

  • Balance near-term product improvements with longer-term opportunities to meaningfully improve the customer experience.

  • Bring clarity and structure to ambiguous problems, helping teams make thoughtful decisions and move forward.

Lead End-to-End Product Design

  • Own the design process from discovery and concept exploration through detailed interaction design, prototyping, and delivery.

  • Translate complex financial products and workflows into simple, intuitive, and engaging experiences.

  • Explore multiple approaches, establish clear design principles, and articulate the rationale behind decisions.

  • Create thoughtful, high-quality experiences that balance usability, accessibility, business objectives, and technical feasibility.

  • Partner with Engineering throughout implementation to ensure the quality and integrity of the shipped experience.

  • Use research, data, and customer feedback to validate solutions and continuously improve the product.

Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build strong, trusted partnerships with Product Managers and Engineers, operating as an equal partner in shaping product outcomes.

  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving, bringing teams together around shared goals and thoughtful solutions.

  • Navigate competing priorities and constraints, making pragmatic tradeoffs without losing sight of the customer experience.

  • Communicate design decisions clearly and persuasively, building alignment across stakeholders and leadership.

  • Take shared ownership of product outcomes, not just design deliverables.

Elevate Design Quality & Team Impact

  • Set a high bar for UX craft, interaction design, and the overall quality of our product experiences.

  • Contribute to a culture of thoughtful critique, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Mentor and support other designers and teammates, helping strengthen their craft, judgment, and strategic thinking.

  • Identify opportunities and propose solutions to improve design practices, workflows, and collaboration across the organization.

  • Contribute to the evolution and adoption of our design system, balancing consistency with opportunities for innovation.

Explore the Future of Product Design

  • Embrace emerging AI tools and workflows to accelerate discovery, exploration, prototyping, and execution.

  • Experiment with new ways of working that increase design velocity without compromising quality.

  • Help shape how Design collaborates with Product and Engineering as AI transforms the product development process.

  • Bring curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to challenge traditional approaches to designing and building software.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 7+ years of product design experience, with a track record of leading complex, high-impact initiatives from discovery through launch and iteration.

  • Exceptional UX and interaction design skills, demonstrated through strong craft, thoughtful problem-solving, and measurable outcomes.

  • Strong product judgment, connecting customer needs with business goals and balancing near-term improvements with long-term vision.

  • Proven experience independently identifying opportunities, framing problems, exploring compelling solutions, and influencing product direction.

  • Strong partnership with Product and Engineering to navigate ambiguity, evaluate tradeoffs, and prioritize solutions based on impact and effort.

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, articulating design rationale, building alignment, and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

  • A pragmatic, iterative approach to design, balancing speed and quality, incorporating feedback, and thoughtfully phasing solutions to deliver value over time.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing complex financial products, consumer fintech experiences, or regulated workflows.

  • Experience working in fast-moving, high-growth startup environments.

  • Experience evolving and scaling design systems, identifying opportunities to improve patterns, strengthen consistency, and contribute to a more cohesive product experience.

  • Familiarity with experimentation, product analytics, and research-driven design.

  • Experience using AI-assisted design, prototyping, or development tools.

  • Familiarity with frontend technologies and modern design-to-development workflows.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 12 months:

  • You've led meaningful product initiatives from problem definition through launch, delivering measurable customer and business impact.

  • You've built trusted partnerships with Product, Engineering, Commercial, and other stakeholders, helping shape priorities and improve product decisions.

  • You've introduced thoughtful, innovative and intuitive solutions to complex customer problems while maintaining a high bar for usability and craft.

  • You've helped the team move faster and make better decisions through clear design rationale, effective collaboration, and pragmatic execution.

  • You've elevated the quality of design across the team through mentorship, critique, and shared practices, and contribution to our design system.

  • You've helped evolve how we design and build products, embracing new tools and approaches that increase our effectiveness.

We don't expect every candidate to check every box. If this role excites you and you bring strong fundamentals, we encourage you to apply.
