Position Details

Summary

The Senior Manager of Manufacturing leads day-to-day manufacturing operations at the Syracuse site, including assembly, machine shop, production planning and shipping/logistics. This role translates operational priorities into disciplined execution, ensures safety and quality compliance, and drives continuous improvement to meet customer, financial, and business objectives. The position requires a hands-on, inclusive leader who builds team capability and delivers results in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead Manufacturing Operations: Manage manufacturing performance for the Syracuse site across assembly, machine shop, manufacturing engineering, and production planning. Establish daily priorities and deliver results in safety, quality, delivery, and cost while meeting company and regulatory requirements.

Drive Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Reinforce visual management, tiered accountability, data-based decision making, and disciplined problem solving leveraging the Novanta Growth System

Connect Manufacturing Engineering & Production Execution: Support Manufacturing Engineering to troubleshoot processes, support new product introductions and transfers, and establish reliable, repeatable manufacturing methods.

Ensure Effective Planning, Capacity & Delivery: Guide production planning and scheduling to align labor, equipment, and materials with demand. Address constraints, improve on-time delivery, and support effective inventory management for the current business while balancing priorities against a manufacturing transfer

Develop a High-Performance Manufacturing Team: Lead, coach, and develop manufacturing leaders and technical teams. Set clear expectations, strengthen accountability, support succession and development planning, and foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and engagement.

Partner Across Functions: Work closely with the Vice President of Operations and partners in Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, Finance, Engineering, and Human Resources to execute operational priorities, resolve issues, and support business growth in a structured and disciplined way

General Tasks

Maintain strict compliance with quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety requirements, including implementation of instructions from the quality, environmental management, and occupational health and safety officers.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Progressive manufacturing operations leadership experience, preferably in regulated, precision, or clean room environments.

Experience managing multiple manufacturing functions, including production, manufacturing engineering, and production planning.

Demonstrated success supporting lean, continuous improvement, and operational excellence initiatives.

Strong operational and financial acumen with the ability to convert business priorities into executable plans.

Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills, with the ability to engage frontline employees and influence cross-functional partners.

Ability to read engineering blueprints and work with Bills of Materials in partnership with Engineering.

Disciplined problem-solving skills and a track record of using data to deliver measurable results.

Medical device, life and health sciences, and/or semiconductor manufacturing experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk in manufacturing areas.

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Ability to wear required PPE.

Frequent movement between production areas.
