Huron seeks a highly motivated and independent engineer to design and build solutions across its healthcare capabilities.
The Lead Data Engineer’s overarching role is translating business and analytical requirements into reliable, scalable, production-grade data solutions. This role focuses on designing, building, deploying, and operating data pipelines, services, and applications that support critical business use cases. You will define technical standards, architectural patterns, and operational practices that engineering teams use to deliver and support data solutions as longlived services. This includes designing data workflows, APIs, processing logic, and the supporting infrastructure required to operate these solutions at scale. The Lead Data Engineer will work closely with a Solution Architect to own and implement large scale technical implementations providing technical mentorship to other Data Engineers.
The Lead Data Engineer must demonstrate strong software engineering discipline, experience shipping production systems, and a mindset of ownership through the full solution lifecycle. You must be able to communicate architectural approaches clearly, lead implementation efforts, and ensure solutions meet expectations for reliability, performance, and supportability. A strong computer science foundation and the ability to learn and adapt quickly are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Designing and providing level of effort estimates for changes to the Insights applications.
- Developing high quality modifications to the application source code, processes, and architecture.
- Delivering fully tested code prior to prod-deployment when appropriate.
- Troubleshooting bugs and issues in the application.
- Coordinating with other engineers to ensure comprehensive changes to the platform meet business needs.
- Recommending and implementing enhancements that streamline processes and improve platform performance, availability, or functionality.
- Assisting in the creation of project plans and capability roadmaps to ensure development of technical solutions are adequately structured and represented.
- Maintaining updated documentation of system and solution designs.
- Providing applicable training to various internal functional SMEs and stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers working on data solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- U.S. work authorization is required.
- A technical (math, engineering, computer science) B.S. degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong computer science fundamentals.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience.
- 6+ years of professional Python and SQL experience.
- 6+ years of professional experience with Cloud Technologies (i.e. Amazon Web Services)
- Experience working with VCS (Git, Subversion, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Motivated, self-starter with ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work within a highly driven and multi-discipline engineering and product team.
Preferred:
- Experience in an agile development process experience with Scrum preferred.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL.
- Experience working with Data Build Tool (DBT)
- Experience working with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., CloudFormation)
- Experience working with UNIX based operating systems (Linux, Ubuntu, etc.)
- Experience working with Snowflake, CloudFront, API Gateway/Lambda, ECS, Application Load Balancer, EC2, S3, VPC, etc.
- Experience working with Git.
- Experience working with Analytics driven applications.
- Experience with Healthcare Data
- EDI/FHIR standards.
- This position can be Full-Time Remote.

The estimated base salary for this job is $140,000 - $190,000 USD. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. This job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s annual incentive compensation program, which reflects Huron’s pay for performance philosophy. Inclusive of annual incentive compensation opportunity, the total estimated compensation range for this job is $168,000 - $228,000 USD. The job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future.
