Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Platform Engineer with 6-9 years of experience to help design, build, and evolve our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) and cloud-native platform engineering ecosystem. This role will focus on improving developer productivity, enabling self-service capabilities, establishing engineering standards, and creating scalable platform solutions that accelerate software delivery across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in Azure, Kubernetes (AKS), Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and cloud-native technologies with a platform product mindset focused on developer experience, automation, reliability, and governance. Experience with Internal Developer Platforms such as Backstage, GitOps workflows, developer portals, platform observability, software catalog management, and engineering governance is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the organization's Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to enable self-service capabilities and improve developer productivity.
• Develop and maintain reusable platform services, golden paths, templates, and automation that accelerate software delivery across engineering teams.
• Build and operate cloud-native platform capabilities on Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and ease of consumption.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and related automation frameworks to standardize platform provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Enable and enhance CI/CD, GitOps, and developer workflows that improve release velocity, consistency, traceability, and operational excellence.
• Drive the adoption and continuous improvement of developer portals such as Backstage, including software catalogs, templates, documentation, self-service actions, and platform integrations.
• Partner with application engineering teams to onboard services, understand developer needs, establish platform best practices, and continuously improve the developer experience.
• Build and enhance platform observability capabilities, including metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and actionable operational insights.
• Design and automate security controls, compliance requirements, policy enforcement, and platform guardrails without creating unnecessary friction for engineering teams.
• Improve platform reliability through resiliency engineering, SLOs, operational automation, performance optimization, capacity planning, incident response, and root-cause analysis.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 6-9 years of hands-on experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering, building reusable capabilities for multiple application teams.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure and production-grade Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including cluster operations, scaling, upgrades, networking, identity, security, and troubleshooting.
• Deep working knowledge of Kubernetes, including workloads, Helm, RBAC, ingress, secrets, autoscaling, multi-tenancy, and production troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, including reusable modules, remote state, testing, governance, and drift management.
• Strong experience designing and maintaining standardized CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
• Ability to build platform services, reusable templates, automation, and paved roads that reduce developer cognitive load and enable self-service.
• Strong scripting or software engineering skills using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Go, or a comparable language.
• Experience implementing observability across infrastructure and platform services using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and actionable alerts.
• Solid understanding of cloud networking, DNS, load balancing, identity and access management, secrets management, and secure software supply chains.
• Experience supporting production platforms through SLOs, incident response, root-cause analysis, capacity planning, and reliability improvements.
• Strong collaboration and product mindset, with the ability to understand developer needs, drive adoption, document standards, and mentor engineers.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with an Internal Developer Platform or developer portal such as Backstage, including software catalog, templates, plugins, TechDocs, or adoption workflows.
• Experience implementing GitOps using ArgoCD or Flux and managing reusable Helm charts or deployment patterns.
• Experience integrating platform capabilities with GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, identity providers, and enterprise governance systems.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, or comparable observability platforms.
• Familiarity with policy-as-code, admission controls, software supply-chain security, container scanning, SBOMs, and automated compliance controls.
• Experience with service mesh, API gateways, Crossplane, Kubernetes operators, or cloud-native control-plane development.
• Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, or DevOps certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CKA, or Terraform Associate.
