We’re growing our Casino team as we build new casino offerings for New Zealand’s regulated market. We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help create the services and APIs behind these products—from player accounts and game integrations to the controls that support safe, compliant play.

You’ll work in a cross-functional, agile and remote-friendly team alongside product, frontend, mobile, QA and platform engineers. Your work will help keep our products fast, reliable and secure as we grow.

Your Impact

• Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, primarily in Go.
• Develop well-structured, maintainable code and contribute to peer reviews.
• Write unit and integration tests to help deliver production-ready changes with confidence.
• Investigate issues across services and environments, and implement lasting fixes.
• Contribute to technical design discussions covering microservices, data modelling and performance.
• Build and run services in containerised environments, using CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Communicate progress, risks and blockers clearly, and work with the team to deliver valuable outcomes.
• Share knowledge through pairing, reviews and documentation.
• Work with Risk and Compliance to build regulatory and responsible gambling requirements into our services.

What You’ll Bring

• Commercial backend engineering experience—typically 3+ years—with Go or a similar compiled, server-side language such as Java, C#, or Rust.
• Experience designing and using APIs, such as REST or gRPC.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, MSSQL or PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimisation.
• Basic understanding of, or experience with, NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, DynamoDB or Elasticsearch.
• Exposure to Docker, containerised applications, CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• An understanding of microservices and service-oriented architecture.
• Sound testing practices and a commitment to clean, maintainable code.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate in an agile, distributed team.
