BASIC FUNCTION:

The Shipping Supervisor position is responsible for supervising shipping and receiving employees at our Covington Avenue facility. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.  The supervisor will properly supervise the teams and allocate resources based upon daily demand.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Analyze, understand and track (KPI’s) Key Performance Indicators on a daily basis
    • 24-hour ship
    • Customer Concerns
    • OTD
  • Assist in assigning staffing to meet departmental goals and support shipping and receiving to meet OTD
  • Promotes team building and team development
  • Participates in the “walk around” discussions
  • Develops and implements new methods, procedures, and systems to improve service, cost, quality, and safety performance
  • Ensure 5S standards are adhered to in area
  • Recognize and rewarding positive contributions, and exercising the Company’s progressive discipline policies when applicable
  • Confirm routine quality and Team Leader (LPA’s) Layered Process Audits
    • Verifications
    • TOPS
    • Invoicing
  • Encourages cross-training to support key performance goals for the company
  • Identify need for kaizen, i.e. process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, waste identification, etc.
  • Supervises operations to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulation, as well as company safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Reviewing employee performance and conducting annual hourly performance assessments
  • Operate and provide forklift training to employees as needed
  • Willingness and ability to operate the company box truck and ensure compliance of DOT regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University; or three years related experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate computer skills to include ERP software and Microsoft Office products – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to act independently.
  • Ability to understand and use lean manufacturing/continuous improvement philosophie
