About this Senior Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, SCADA role at Crusoe

Crusoe · Onsite · Denver, CO - US

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About This Role

As the Sr Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, SCADA, you will own SCADA governance and drive the scaling strategy for deploying SCADA across an assigned portfolio of Crusoe data center projects, spanning modular, colocation, and hyperscale builds. You will define the standards and levers that ensure uniformity where it matters and flexibility where it's needed, giving the cloud team and downstream customers the operational data and telemetry required to run and improve data center performance.

This role demands deep technical ownership of telemetry and data governance and the control layer, paired with the judgment to know when a standard approach should flex to meet a specific project's requirements. You will work directly with engineering peers to build approaches that vendor field teams can actually implement at speed, and you'll direct the documentation practices that keep vendor performance accountable across the pipeline. As a Sr Staff level engineer, you're expected to informally raise the technical bar for those around you, sharing knowledge and perspective with peers even where mentorship isn't a formal part of the job. This is a Full-Time position requiring an estimated 25% travel, varying by project needs and tied to escalation events, First of Kind (FOK) deployments, and direct vendor support.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Control Layer Governance: Own tag naming taxonomy and govern interfacing with the control layer across assigned SCADA deployments, ensuring consistent data structures that feed downstream cloud and customer systems.

  • Version Control Strategy: Provide guidance on version control system usage across active projects in the pipeline, establishing practices that protect configuration integrity as programs scale.

  • Governance Documentation: Draft and maintain the documentation that drives governance across tagging, version control, and vendor standards, ensuring the frameworks other teams rely on are clear, current, and enforceable.

  • Cross-Program Standardization: Partner directly with engineering peers to develop approaches flexible enough to meet project-specific requirements while maintaining uniformity that accelerates deployment velocity.

  • Vendor Implementability: Validate that governance frameworks and technical approaches are realistically implementable by vendor field workforces, balancing standardization with practical field constraints.

  • SME-Level Review: Serve as the subject matter expert for escalated or ambiguous documentation and governance questions, providing authoritative guidance where standard processes don't clearly apply.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Mission-Critical Systems Mastery: 10+ years of experience in mission-critical or related critical industrial control systems environments.

  • Ignition & Version Control Expertise: Deep mastery of the Ignition SCADA platform and version control systems as applied to industrial control projects.

  • Hosting & Infrastructure Fluency: Strong familiarity with hosting methodologies including containerization and orchestration alongside bare-metal deployment, plus a fundamental understanding of server hardware and topologies.

  • Protocol Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of data center and industrial control protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP / RTU and BACnet IP / MS/TP, EtherNet/IP, and working knowledge of IEC 61850 and related IO protocols.

  • OT Security Familiarity: Working familiarity with OT/ICS security fundamentals, including concepts like the Purdue model and secure remote access practices, sufficient to collaborate effectively with security stakeholders.

  • Clear, Cross-Functional Communication: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders both inside and outside the department, building alignment across engineering, vendors, and cloud teams.

  • Mandatory Education: A Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Bonus Points

  • Hyperscale Program Experience: Experience developing mission-critical applications at scale within a hyperscale portfolio, where multiple teams and workstreams are developing simultaneously, is invaluable given the coordination demands of Crusoe's pipeline.

  • Deeper OT Security Ownership: Experience actively owning or architecting OT security controls, beyond general familiarity, is a strong plus.

  • Linux & Containerization Depth: Working knowledge of Linux, containerization, and industrial networking, with deeper mastery in these areas considered a strong plus.

  • Industry Certifications: Relevant certifications in industrial cybersecurity or SCADA-specific frameworks.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and equity packages

  • Restricted Stock Units

  • Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs

  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance

  • Employer contributions to HSA account

  • Paid parental leave

  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
