In this role, you will help scale ABB's Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMMR) technology across customer applications throughout Europe and beyond. Working at the intersection of customer deployment, solution development, and product innovation, you will turn cutting-edge robotics technology into robust, repeatable, and successful solutions. This is a unique opportunity to influence the evolution of a breakthrough robotics offering, collaborating closely with customers, Product Management, R&D, and engineering teams to shape the future of autonomous mobile manipulation.

You will join a global team of application engineers and solution experts, with a primary focus on the European market.

The preferred locations are Milan/Italy, Barcelona/Spain or Huizingen/Belgium.

Travel of up to 50% may be required, primarily within Europe.

Your responsibilities:

  • Drive Customer Adoption and Deployment Success: Act as the AMMR technical expert, combining deep product knowledge with practical application expertise. Engage directly with customers to understand their operational needs, develop proof-of-concepts and application demonstrations, and support the industrialization and deployment of solutions into production environments.
  • Ensure Successful Customer Implementations: Partner with customer execution teams across Europe to deliver successful AMMR deployments, providing expertise in application design, commissioning, troubleshooting, risk mitigation, and system optimization from project initiation through production ramp-up.
  • Develop Scalable Application Standards and Best Practices: Create and maintain engineering guidelines, templates, standards, and validated solution concepts that enable efficient scaling of AMMR applications across customers, industries, market segments, and geographies.
  • Act as the Technical Bridge Across Functions: Serve as the primary technical interface between customers, Sales, Product Management, R&D, and Engineering teams, ensuring alignment between customer requirements, solution delivery, and product evolution.
  • Drive Continuous Product Improvement: Capture lessons learned from customer projects and translate them into actionable feedback for Product Management and R&D, including feature requests, user stories, bug reports, and recommendations that enhance product performance, usability, and scalability.
  • Lead and Mentor a Global Community of Experts: Coach and support AMMR Application Engineers across Europe and globally, fostering engineering excellence, knowledge sharing, standardization, teamwork, and the reuse of proven solutions.

Your background:

  • 10+ years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in robotics, industrial automation, autonomous systems, or related technologies, with experience in application engineering, systems engineering, solution architecture, or technical project delivery.
  • Hands-on experience integrating complex industrial systems, including at least two of the following: industrial robots, mobile robots (AMRs), PLCs and control systems, functional safety systems, and industrial vision systems.
  • Proven track record delivering customer-facing projects from pilot and early-stage deployments through full production implementation, including commissioning, troubleshooting, validation, and performance optimization.
  • Strong systems engineering mindset with the ability to translate customer requirements into scalable technical solutions, architectures, integration concepts, and deployment strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams, including Product Management, R&D, Engineering, Operations, Sales, and customers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in English. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment; experience coaching or mentoring engineers is an advantage.

This opportunity is open to candidates in one or more countries covered by the European Pay Transparency Directive. The final work location will depend on the selected candidate.
