Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer serves as a hands-on technical leader, consultant, and delivery lead for citizen development and innovation initiatives within Applied Technology. Partnering closely with business owners, technical subject matter experts, Digital Solution Leaders (DSLs), and Technology & Innovation teams, this role helps identify opportunities, evaluate solution approaches, and deliver scalable technology solutions. The position combines software engineering expertise with project delivery leadership, guiding initiatives through the full solution lifecycle from discovery and design through deployment and support. This role ensures solutions align with approved technologies, governance standards, security requirements, and long-term support models while establishing repeatable practices that accelerate innovation and drive measurable business value across the firm
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Innovation & Solution Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC) from solution intake and requirements definition through architecture, development, testing, deployment, and support serving as the primary technical delivery lead.
- Partner with Digital Solution Leaders (DSLs), stakeholders, and technical subject matter experts to identify opportunities, define requirements, and evaluate solution options.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate approaches including process improvements, automation, AI-enable solutions, low-code platforms, custom development, or third-party technologies.
Solution Lifecycle Management
- Manage all phases of the solution lifecycle including discovery, design, development, testing, deployment, support and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams collaborate with IT, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to ensure successful solution delivery.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and effectively integrated with existing systems, workflows, and business processes.
Governance & Operational Sustainability
- Ensure citizen developed solutions align with approved technologies, governance standards, security requirements, and operational support models and support production deployment processes.
- Develop and maintain documentation, support procedures, and ownership models to ensure long-term sustainability and supportability of solutions.
Portfolio Management & Value Realization
- Manage a portfolio of innovation initiatives by tracking priorities, risks, dependencies, project status, and business value delivered.
- Monitor solution adoption, performance, and outcomes, identifying opportunities for enhancement and continuous improvement.
Innovation Enablement
- Coach and support Digital Solution Leaders, citizen developers, and technical teams through best practices, reusable solutions, and technology adoption.
- Research emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, project delivery, and business outcomes through innovation.
We have one current opening and will consider candidates being based out of our Lincoln, NE, Omaha, NE, Overland Park, KS, North Kansas City, MO or Springfield, MO offices.

You bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related field preferred. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associates degree with equivalent experience is required
- Minimum 6+ years of experience delivering technology, automation, software, digital transformation, or business process improvement solutions.
- Experience leading cross-functional technology initiatives and collaborating with business and technical stakeholders.
- Experience gathering requirements, evaluating solutions, and managing technology projects through development, implementation, and support.
- Developing or supporting solutions using one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, VB.NET, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, VBA, or similar technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience with AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) software platforms and related development ecosystems, including Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Bentley applications, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar engineering technologies is a plus.
