Do you have extensive experience in the chemical industry and a proven track record of successfully leading large-scale international CAPEX projects?

At Covestro, you will take full responsibility for international capital investment projects valued at €200 million and above. From concept development through to commissioning, you will manage complex projects for chemical production facilities across our global sites.

You will lead international project teams, manage external EPCM contractors, and drive key technical and commercial decisions. Your strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and ability to communicate complex engineering topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders will be essential to your success.

We are looking for an experienced project leader with extensive CAPEX expertise in the chemical industry and the willingness to take on long-term international assignments at project locations worldwide.

In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we offer a competitive annual base salary ranging from €131,600 to €164,500 for this full-time position, plus variable compensation. Your actual starting salary will be based on your qualifications and experience.

What you will do

  • Take full responsibility for large-scale international CAPEX projects in the chemical industry with investment volumes of €200 million and above, ensuring delivery against safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from concept development, engineering, permitting, procurement, and construction through to commissioning and handover.
  • Lead international, multidisciplinary project teams and manage external EPC contractors, engineering service providers, and other project partners.
  • Develop project execution and contracting strategies, oversee contract and interface management, and ensure that technical and commercial requirements are met.
  • Take ownership of cost and schedule planning, proactively identify project risks, and manage changes and corrective actions to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Act as the central point of contact for business owners, senior management, and technical functions. Translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights and provide a sound basis for business decisions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of global technical standards, project management practices, and safety and quality processes.
  • Take responsibility for major international projects through long-term assignments at project locations worldwide. For projects in Germany, assume construction management responsibilities under applicable state building regulations, provided the necessary professional qualifications and legal requirements are met.

What you bring to the role

  • A university degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a comparable engineering discipline.
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience in the chemical industry, including a proven track record in delivering complex CAPEX projects for chemical production facilities. Substantial experience in the chemical industry is a mandatory requirement for this position.
  • At least ten years of experience managing large-scale industrial CAPEX projects, with a proven track record of successfully leading international capital investment projects, ideally valued at €200 million or above.
  • Extensive hands-on experience leading and managing external EPCM contractors, along with a strong understanding of international contracting and project execution models.
  • In-depth knowledge of the entire chemical plant project lifecycle, including engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, cost and schedule control, and risk management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to confidently lead international teams, align diverse stakeholders, and explain complex technical matters clearly and convincingly to non-technical audiences and senior management.
  • Willingness to relocate internationally, including outside Europe and live and work at project locations for extended periods, typically three to five years. This is a mandatory requirement for the position.
  • Very good written and spoken English and German language skills.
  • A strong sense of ownership, commercial awareness, analytical thinking, and sound decision-making skills, with the ability to maintain a clear overview in complex international project environments.
