What you’ll do
As a Senior Product Designer, your key area of responsibility will be driving design initiatives across cross-functional teams to shape the product design vision, creating complex data-heavy surfaces (such as live video review, safety timelines, and fleet dashboards), and championing our design system. You will need to work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Research, and senior leadership. To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with strong communication skills, excellent UX judgment, and a high degree of autonomy who thrives in a fast-paced environment. In addition, the successful candidate will have 5-8 years of product design experience with deep knowledge of Figma, responsive web application patterns, and a strong portfolio of shipped products.
How you’ll make an impact
- Responsible for driving design initiatives in cross-functional teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration and ensuring the seamless integration of design solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Take a proactive role in identifying opportunities to enhance design capabilities and effectiveness, initiating improvements in design methodologies, tools, and workflows to optimize efficiency and deliver exceptional user experiences.
- Conduct research, user testing, and analysis to gain deep insights into user behaviors, preferences, and pain points, guiding the development of user-centered design solutions.
- Take responsibility for knowledge sharing within the design team, mentoring and supporting junior designers to foster their professional growth and excellence.
- Advise manager on user-centric design principles and best practices, ensuring that design solutions align with user needs and industry standards.
- Gather requirements and align design efforts with business objectives, actively seeking opportunities to improve the overall product experience.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices, continuously evolving design skills and knowledge.
- Advise on design concepts and communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders, presenting design solutions and justifying design decisions based on user research and data.
- Work independently with developers and product managers to ensure the successful implementation of design solutions, providing guidance and support throughout the development process.
- Champion the adoption and evolution of a design system, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive its implementation and maintenance by establishing and encouraging the adoption of design system guidelines.
- Lead efforts within a cross-functional team to advocate and contribute to our design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across products and platforms.
- Mentor earlier stage designers across the design team; leveling up the team, helping to improve best practices, processes and tooling.
- Help build a high-functioning design team and culture; contributing to hiring processes, providing thoughtful feedback in design critiques, identifying internal and external opportunities to level up design at Geotab.
What you’ll bring to this role
- 5-8 years of relevant industry experience owning product design end-to-end for shipped software, ideally in B2B, SaaS, telematics, video, or another data-rich domain.
- A portfolio of shipped products that reached real users, with clear evidence of the parts you personally owned.
- Relevant Bachelor’s Diploma/Degree or equivalent industry experience (Degree specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field preferred).
- Deep knowledge of product design, including UI design proficiency, modern design systems, prototyping, interaction patterns, responsive web applications, and expert command of tools like Figma.
- Strong UX judgment grounded in research with the ability to lead all aspects of user-centered design, conduct usability testing, and analyze behavior data to drive decisions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate complex ideas, defend design decisions with reasoning and data, and engage across all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter and adaptable team player comfortable with high-intensity workloads, minimal supervision, and collaborating daily with product and engineering teams.
