At AXON, we partner with healthcare organizations to tell the stories that matter — stories that advance science, improve patient outcomes, and spark meaningful change. As a Senior Medical Writer, you'll play a key role in transforming complex scientific evidence into engaging communications that support healthcare professionals, patients, and other stakeholders.

You'll work across multiple therapeutic areas and client accounts, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior writers and contributing to the continued growth of our agency.

As the Senior Medical Writer you will:

  • Translate complex clinical data into clear, accurate, and engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Serve as a trusted scientific partner to clients by providing expert editorial guidance and participating in client review meetings.
  • Mentor and develop junior medical writers while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary colleagues across AXON and the AVENIR GLOBAL network to deliver integrated healthcare communications solutions.

We are looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented scientific communicator who combines medical expertise with strategic thinking and a passion for producing exceptional work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of scientifically accurate, strategically aligned medical content across a broad range of healthcare communications materials.
  • Serve as the day-to-day scientific and editorial contact for assigned clients, confidently presenting recommendations and participating in client review meetings.
  • Interpret and communicate complex clinical and scientific data for healthcare professionals, patients, and other stakeholder audiences.
  • Monitor therapeutic area developments, clinical research, and regulatory milestones, proactively sharing insights with clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with account teams, strategists, creatives, and project managers to deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, and external partners.
  • Contribute scientific expertise to proposals, project planning, and new business opportunities.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet AXON's quality standards and comply with pharmaceutical industry regulations and best practices.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Mentor junior writers through coaching, constructive feedback, and scientific knowledge sharing.

Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline (PhD, PharmD, MSc, MD or equivalent preferred).
  • 5–8+ years of experience in medical communications, healthcare communications, medical education, pharmaceutical industry, or a healthcare agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting clinical research and translating complex scientific information into clear, engaging communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with meticulous attention to scientific accuracy and detail.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations, medical review processes, and compliance standards.
  • Experience managing multiple projects across different therapeutic areas and client accounts.
  • Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for advancing healthcare communications.
  • Capability to work 3 days a week in-office.
  • Ability to travel as required.
