We are seeking a talented individual to join our Actuarial team, part of our Health and Benefits business at Marsh. This role will be based in any of our office locations across Canada.

This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The Senior Health and Benefits Actuarial Consultant will serve as an experienced signing Health Actuary. You will manage a significant portfolio of actuarial Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) clients. You will review, sign off on, and deliver OPEB valuation results, accounting year-end disclosures, budget expenses, and projections. You will present valuation results and actuarial assumptions to clients and support responses to auditor requests. You will also manage client projects focused on employer health benefits strategies, including financial projections, plan design changes, costing, and renewal negotiations. In addition, you will serve as a primary financial contact for clients while providing direction to analysts, associates, and senior associates.

We will count on you to:

  • Review data analyses completed by junior staff to ensure actuarial accuracy, appropriate use of valuation models, and support their professional development.
  • Perform and review complex analyses and cost projections using tools such as Excel and in-house software, with a specialization in healthcare-related insurance areas.
  • Draft and review client reports and presentations that summarize valuation and accounting results, recommend actuarial assumptions, and propose solutions or plan design changes.
  • Manage day-to-day client interactions, resolve project-related questions, and guide junior team members in client management.
  • Assist senior team members with business development efforts by identifying growth opportunities and supporting proposal responses.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual capital and expand knowledge of health insurance actuarial services and products.
  • Lead routine client engagements, managing overall service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, plan design, renewals, flex-pricing, benchmarking, and other projects related to underwriting health and welfare insurance.

What you need to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of experience in an actuarial field, with health and benefits consulting experience.
  • Must have achieved, or be progressing toward, Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) designation.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $122,000 to $172,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
