About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Malaysia office as part of Altera's global Engineering Finance team, working closely with US-based finance leadership across time zones. This person will participate across the full planning cycle (AOP, quarterly forecasting, and 5-year strategic reviews), and is an important, hands-on contributor to in-quarter spend tracking, quarterly forecasting, and quarterly closing for assigned cost centers. This role operates with real independence — we're looking for someone who can own their area end to end, think critically about the numbers, and take initiative rather than wait for direction. Success also calls for strong Oracle EPM fluency and the judgment to work through ambiguous, cross-functional deliverables alongside Accounting and business partners.
This role has broad exposure across the organization — working directly with business leaders, FP&A, and Technical Accounting — and is one of the most important members of the Engineering Finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in AOP (Annual Operating Plan) development and quarterly forecasting for assigned Engineering/R&D and Operations cost centers, and be an important contributor throughout the process, using Oracle EPM as the primary planning and reporting system
- Track in-quarter spend against budget and help ensure business operations run according to plan, flagging variances early and partnering with engineering and program leads on corrective action
- Be an important contributor to quarterly closing for assigned cost centers — a core, recurring part of this role — helping ensure actuals are accurate and costs are classified appropriately
- Participate in 5-year strategic reviews and long-term forecasting and planning, translating the technology roadmap and headcount plans into multi-year financial models
- Build financial models for investment analysis, including NPV analysis for new product development and ROI on existing investments, to support investment tradeoff decisions
- Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to bring financial rigor to major investment decisions, presenting analysis that helps leadership decide where to commit resources
- Track program and IP milestones (e.g., license fee payment milestones, tapeout, PRQ) and their financial implications across the portfolio
- Work closely with Technical Accounting and business stakeholders on contract review (e.g., licensing and royalty terms), helping translate contract terms into the right financial treatment and decisions
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Accounting, and business/engineering teams to resolve open questions and keep spend tracked consistently across systems
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive FP&A experience, including ownership of AOP/budget cycles, quarterly forecasting, and month-end/quarter-end close, ideally supporting an engineering, R&D, or technology organization
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle EPM required
- Demonstrated experience building financial models for investment decisions, business cases, or ROI/payback analysis
- Advanced Excel skills, with comfort building and maintaining complex financial models
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn data into clear, actionable insight
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal oversight — a self-driven initiator and critical thinker who surfaces issues and proposes solutions rather than waiting to be asked, and is comfortable working through ambiguous, cross-functional accounting and budget questions
- Excellent team player who works well cross-functionally and is comfortable collaborating with a US-based team across time zones
- Strong communication skills; comfortable presenting analysis to non-finance stakeholders, including engineering and operations leadership
Nice to Have
- Experience in the semiconductor or technology hardware industry
- Familiarity with Jira, Workday, or other planning/tracking tools used alongside Oracle EPM
- Exposure to IP licensing, royalty accounting, or R&D capitalization concepts
