Qualifications

  • At least 10 years in mobile/cross-platform development
  • At least 8 years Flutter and/or native iOS/Android in production
  • Able to independently execute feature developments, perform code reviews, and collaborate with teammates of varying expertise and experience
  • React Native familiarity is expected; deeper RN experience is a plus

Required Technical Skills

Mobile

  • Solid Flutter and/or native iOS and Android development — screens, navigation, forms, lists.
    • Flutter: Dart, widgets, state management, platform channels
    • Native iOS: Swift (Objective-C a plus), UIKit and/or SwiftUI
    • Native Android: Kotlin (Java a plus), Android SDK / Jetpack basics
  • Advice on when performance or device APIs require native modules over cross-platform code
  • Strong in iOS and Android permissions, app lifecycle, store release basics and delivering consistent quality
  • Push notifications, secure storage, maps and geolocation including geofencing, camera and file capture with progress feedback and retried upload
  • Navigation, state management, networking layer, shared UI components, and environment and API client configuration
  • Offline sync patterns – local persistence, form drafts, queued submissions and conflict handling
  • User-Interfaces (UI) that display integration-backed content (documents, data summaries, spatial context, near-real-time field data), with considered loading, empty and error states

APIs & Security

  • Consuming versioned backend JSON APIs with JWT or similar authentication methods – token refresh, custom headers, encrypted payloads
  • Login and session flows, including multi-factor and OTP verification
  • Comfortable reading API docs and handling common errors, including retry and failure feedback
  • Understanding of device info in API requests (app version, OS, device id)

Adjacent skills

  • Able to discuss and agree API contracts with Laravel/PHP backend developers
  • Open to working with Python services (FastAPI, Django, or Flask) as data sources
  • Angular or React web knowledge to align mobile app flows with the web app
  • Exposure to React Native for migration (e.g., TypeScript) and shared mobile work

Engineering

  • Git and code review. Mobile CI and build pipelines.
  • Debugging with device logs and network tools across devices and OS version
  • Reusable automated tests for critical logic
  • Basic TestFlight / Play Console (or similar) release experience

Good to Have

  • Stronger React Native delivery experience (beyond familiarity)
  • Background location / geofencing in production
  • Biometrics or extra mobile security practices
  • Azure DevOps or cloud CI for mobile builds
  • Experience with form-heavy enterprise apps
  • Experience with telemetry-style UX or simple 3D/spatial viewers on mobile

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver new features for mobile applications to meet project, client and unit requirements
  • Maintain and extend existing applications across supported devices and OS versions
  • Integrate applications with the unit's backend services and external data sources
  • Implement secure login and session handling, on-device credential storage and multi-factor verification / authentication
  • Deliver location-based features including site presence checks and permission handling
  • Support app information capture, transfer and synchronisation over unreliable connections
  • Build screens presenting integration-backed content — documents, data summaries, spatial and near-real-time sensor data
  • Maintain offline app feature capabilities and local caching for use without connectivity
  • Own application structure and patterns for environments, retries and sync/error handling
  • Work with backend and web teams on interface contracts, versioning and device metadata
  • Manage builds and store releases so live changes are tested, auditable and reversible
  • Maintain code quality, documentation, peer review and code tests
  • Resolve faults across applications, device features, uploads and connected services
