NXP’s Functional Safety Competence Center empowers all business units to deliver functionally safe and standard compliant solutions, addressing current and emerging challenges in the automotive and industrial safety markets.

Job Summary

This Safety Engineer position is part of the Functional Safety Competence Center and contributes to the development of safety-compliant semiconductor products. Key responsibilities are defining, analyzing, and validating safety concepts and architectures, including developing safety requirements and performing Safety Analyses. The Safety Engineer collaborates with implementation teams, systems, hardware, and software teams to deliver robust, certifiable solutions and to ensuring a Functional Safety compliant development process.

Candidates with strong experience in Microcontroller and Microprocessor architecture and Safety product development are preferred. Exceptions may be made for candidates having no prior safety experience but have strong background in chip design architecture and are motivated to learn Functional Safety.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5–8 years of experience in semiconductor product development with exposure to functional safety.
  • Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures and their application in automotive or industrial safety domains.
  • Strong understanding of IP and SoC level Safety mechanisms.
  • Understanding safety standards (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508) and associated development lifecycles and work products.
  • Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA, and FMEDA.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience in functional safety design and development within Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
  • Broad exposure to semiconductor product development (e.g., IP design, verification, DFT, physical implementation, tools, and methodologies).
  • Hands-on experience with safety analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Medini).
  • Experience in safety audits, assessments, and certification activities.
  •  Familiarity with requirements management tools such as ELM7.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop functional and technical safety concepts based on product architecture, technology, and intended functionality.
  • Contribute to the capture and management of requirements using appropriate requirements management tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent and effective implementation of safety concepts.
  • Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels, including FTA, DFA, and FMEDA.
  • Support the definition and review of safety verification and validation strategies.
  • Contribute to safety audits, assessments, and internal reviews.
  • Support customers in the integration and application of NXP safety products, including tailored solutions where required.
