About this Robotics Technical Lead role at SMEC

SMEC · Onsite · Singapore

Surbana Technologies is looking for a Robotics Technical Lead to take technical ownership of this platform and to build and lead a team of roboticist. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set the technical direction, stay close to the code, and grow a high-performing engineering team around you.

As Robotics Tech Lead you are accountable for the design, delivery, and reliability of the platform that plans, dispatches, and coordinates robots operating in shared, human-occupied spaces. You will translate product goals into a sound technical architecture, make the hard build decisions, and ensure the system is robust, safe, and easy to deploy.

Equally, you will build and manage the robotics team including hiring, mentoring, setting engineering standards, and creating an environment where people do their best work. You will also be an effective orchestrator of AI. we expect our engineers to direct AI coding agents to do much of the hands-on implementation, and to spend their own time on architecture, review, and judgement.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of the platform that coordinates robot fleets across one or many buildings, and drive it from concept to dependable production.

  • Build and lead a team of roboticists: hire, mentor, set technical standards, and run the delivery of the roadmap.

  • Make the key technical decisions: how the system is structured, how it scales across sites, and how it stays responsive and safe when robots share space with people.

  • Design how third-party robots from different vendors are brought onto the platform, and establish a clean, repeatable pattern for adding new ones.

  • Ensure robots integrate smoothly with the building and the wider operations environment, so that activity, status, and events flow to the people and systems that need them.

  • Define the interfaces other teams and products build on, and keep them stable, well-documented, and easy to consume.

  • Champion an AI-augmented way of working: orchestrate AI coding agents to accelerate delivery, and raise the bar on what a small team can ship.

  • Establish the engineering foundations: testing, simulation, quality, and deployment — that let the platform be rolled out reliably to new sites.

Must-have

  • Production robotics experience in Facility Management AND Security robotics — e.g. cleaning, delivery, inspection, patrol, or access-integrated robots deployed in real buildings (a hard requirement).

  • Experience coordinating or orchestrating multiple robots as a fleet with any framework or in-house system.

  • A track record of leading engineers: building, mentoring, and managing a technical team, and owning delivery end to end.

  • Strong, hands-on software engineering across the robotics stack, with the judgement to design systems that are robust in the real world.

  • Comfortable orchestrating AI coding agents as a core part of how you and your team build

  • Experience designing and owning interfaces or platforms that other teams and products depend on.

  • Instinct for safety-relevant systems operating around people.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with open multi-robot orchestration frameworks and the wider ROS ecosystem.

  • Experience integrating robots with building systems such as lifts/elevators, automatic doors, access control, and building-management systems.

  • Security-domain depth: patrol routing, incident-response workflows, and integration with surveillance / access-control platforms.

  • Experience deploying and operating fleets across multiple sites, including multi-tenant and edge deployments.

  • Simulation experience used in testing and pre-deployment validation.

  • Experience delivering platforms that system integrators or partners deploy for their own customers.

At Surbana Jurong, we put talent, hard work, teamwork and a fun workplace together to approach problems and solve them creatively and collaboratively. Join us in making a positive impact on the world!
