Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to lead and grow the rice business in Malaysia by taking ownership of business performance, market strategy, customer and channel development, sales execution and product portfolio management. The role is accountable for translating market opportunities into sustainable revenue, gross margin, market penetration and portfolio growth, while providing clear commercial direction to Area Business Leads and working cross-functionally with Commercial Operations, Regulatory, R&D and other supporting functions. Rice business and portfolio manager acts as business owner for rice segment, ensuring the right portfolio, commercial strategy and market execution to strengthen our position in overall Malaysia rice market.
Location: Penang or Northern Malaysia
The Role (daily responsibilities)
Rice Business Strategy & Performance
o Develop and execute annual and mid-term business strategy for the rice segment
o Establish clear business priorities by market, geography, customer, channel and product. Develop a strong market and customer strategies
o Own rice business revenue, gross margin, volume and overall commercial performance
o Translate rice business objectives into actionable plans for rice Area Business Leads and monitor distributor performance. Having strong sales leadership and right control of field execution
o Maintain a clear view of business risks, opportunities and competitive threats
Product Portfolio Management
o Own commercial strategy and performance of rice product portfolio
o Develop a clear portfolio roadmap based on market needs, competitive landscape and future growth opportunities
o Identify portfolio gaps and white space analysis for rice business segment, ensure a balanced portfolio capability
Market & Competitive Intelligence
o Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Malaysian Rice market and production system
o Monitor crop season, agronomic challenges, farmer practices, competitive activities and changes in market dynamics
o Translate market intelligence into business and portfolio recommendations
o Provide regular market insights
Commercial Forecast Input
o Develop robust sales and demand assumptions for rice business based on market intelligence, customer pipeline, crop season and field activities
o Work with Commercial Operations to improve forecast quality and accuracy
Demand Generation & Market Activation
o Define the commercial objectives and priority markets for rice demand generation activities
o Support field demonstrations, farmer engagement, dealer programs, field days and other market development initiatives
o Ensure commercial activities are designed around measurable business outcomes
o Leading channel and key account development activities
New Product Introduction & Portfolio Development
o Develop commercial assessments and business cases for potential new products. Identify market opportunities in rice segment
o Collaborate with Regulatory and R&D throughout product development process and launching preparation
o Lead commercial readiness for rice product launches
o Monitor post-launch performance and recommend actions to accelerate adoption
The Candidate (requirements)
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Science or related discipline from a reputable university
- Preferably with >3 years of experience in the rice segment business in Malaysia
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage a variety of tasks independently. Experience in business management, product management, portfolio management, sales or market development
- Strong commercial and financial understanding. Proven ability to translate market insights into commercial growth opportunities
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities
- Willing to relocate within Malaysia based on business requirement
