About Waythrough

Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the Service

Our Hope Team is based at Recovery Centre Peterlee and provides compassionate, person-centred support to adults experiencing issues with drugs and alcohol across County Durham.

The team works alongside individuals at every stage of their recovery journey, helping them to reduce harm, improve wellbeing and achieve lasting positive change. Working collaboratively with health professionals, partner agencies and local communities, we deliver tailored support that empowers people to take control of their recovery and move towards healthier, more fulfilling lives.

About the Role

We're looking for a caring, motivated and organised Recovery Coordinator to join our Hope Team.

You'll manage your own caseload, working closely with individuals to understand their goals, develop personalised recovery plans and provide ongoing support throughout their recovery journey. No two days are the same—you could be completing assessments, delivering one-to-one interventions, facilitating recovery groups, working with partner agencies or supporting people to access wider community services.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to people's lives while becoming part of a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team.

The role is primarily Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, with one early finish each week. You'll also take part in a rota covering approximately one late evening each month and one Saturday morning every 12 weeks to help ensure the service remains accessible to those who need it.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing a caseload of people accessing drug and alcohol treatment and recovery support.
  • Completing assessments, recovery planning and ongoing reviews.
  • Delivering evidence-based one-to-one and group interventions.
  • Working in partnership with health, social care and community organisations.
  • Supporting people to reduce harm and build sustainable recovery.
  • Undertaking safeguarding, risk assessments and case management.
  • Promoting recovery-focused practice and encouraging positive outcomes for individuals and families.
  • Maintaining accurate records using our electronic case management system.

About You

We're looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and committed to helping people achieve positive change.

You'll ideally have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or be willing to work towards it.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • A caring, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a busy multidisciplinary team.

Experience within substance use services is welcomed, but we also recognise the value of transferable skills. If you've worked in health, social care, housing or another people-focused environment and are passionate about supporting others, we'd love to hear from you.

A driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous, as some outreach work may be required.

  • Pension scheme with 4.5% employer contribution, matched up to 6.5%

  • Life assurance (3× annual salary)
