The SPLC is seeking a Program Manager, Center for Advocacy & Learning who is passionate about social justice!


The Program Manager, Center for Advocacy and Learning will advance and lead the Alabama State Office community-centered training, leadership development and education. This role will be responsible for designing the curriculum for our organizing and advocacy leadership programs. This role will localize advocacy and grassroots organizing workshops, facilitate trainings, and build out the train-the-trainer model that expands our capacity to develop leaders across Alabama. 

Who You Are

Experienced curriculum designer and adult learning practitioner with a passion for creating engaging, community-centered learning experiences that build leadership, advocacy, and organizing skills.

Research and Analytics. You combine strong research and analytical skills with the ability to translate complex policy and legislative issues into accessible, actionable content that equips community members to understand and take action.

Train the Trainer. You are a skilled facilitator who understands not only how to deliver impactful trainings, but how to design curriculum and train-the-trainer programs that enable others to facilitate with confidence and consistency.

Collaborative. You are a highly collaborative relationship builder who enjoys partnering across teams and with community leaders, organizations, and subject matter experts to develop trainings that reflect local needs and strengthen community leadership.

Organized and Adaptable. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while continuously improving programs based on participant feedback, data, and evolving organizational priorities.

Mission, Vision & Values Alignment. Demonstrates an understanding of and a commitment to SPLC's mission, vision and values.

What You'll Do

Design, develop, and continuously refine the Institute's organizing, advocacy, and leadership development curriculum, by adapting place-based frameworks into accessible, culturally grounded learning experiences that address the needs and priorities of Alabama communities.

Develop and facilitate workshops, trainings, and leadership development opportunities for cohort members, community partners, and other stakeholders, using participant feedback and program outcomes to strengthen program effectiveness and impact.

Build and lead a train-the-trainer program by developing facilitation standards, tools, and materials that ensure consistent, high-quality delivery while expanding the Institute's network of skilled trainers and facilitators.

Identify, recruit, coordinate, and support trainers, guest speakers, and subject matter experts who enhance Institute programming and contribute to participant learning and engagement.

Lead the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of cohort members, fostering a supportive learning environment and strengthening connections through the Institute's alumni network.

Collaborate with program leadership and internal departments to align Institute initiatives with organizational priorities while building and maintaining partnerships with community leaders, educators, organizations, cultural institutions, and coalition partners to strengthen community impact and local leadership development.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices, therefore you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Minimum of 5 years of community education, program management, coalition and group facilitation, or related field, including direct experience designing curriculum or training programs; and
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $69,702 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role has the following work designation options: 

  • Local Remote:  Employees in positions designated Local Remote Work are expected to attend work-related activities that occur at SPLC offices and in the states in which SPLC operates. These activities include but are not limited to trainings, meetings, events, hearings, and court appearances.
  • Telework:  Positions designated as telework eligible may work two days (16 hours) a week from an alternative work location.
  • This position will report to the Director, Alabama State Office.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.

This position is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
