REPORTS TO

Section Manager, Function Manager or any other person appointed to supervise him/her from time to time.

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for a senior Design Engineer/Technologist to assist in project within the Municipal space. Project Management, Civil Design, Drawings, Documentation, Construction supervision and Project close out within the Buildings and Cities Function and providing assistance to Senior Engineers/Scientists/Other Professionals/Consultants in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Good software tool understanding, works alone with minimum supervision whilst producing tool deliverables
  • Able to organise information well and communicate design intent through software tool output. e.g. structure a drawing correctly and communicate design intent through drawing using CAD
  • Understands the principles of the design process and how design is translated into deliverables through the use of software tools.
  • Understands the key project issues and how these influence their individual work
  • Taking ownership and responsibility for their own work and completing it to time and cost
  • Trains technicians and junior staff in relevant software tools
  • Supervises and checks the work of other team members
  • Develops increased design ability and quality
  • Drafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality
  • Able to present / represent their technical work
  • Draft responses to straightforward bids – assistance sought with commercial aspects
  • Develop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management
  • Successful in identifying and following through on leads associated with additional work prospects on the projects they are involved with.
  • Regular client contact under direction of more senior manager
  • Ability to inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications
  • Undertakes monitoring and proposes remedial actions
  • Understand and implement local functional business technologies and markets
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end
  • Develop project scope and deliverables that support client business goals in collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Civil Services Design software proficiency is required
  • BSc/ BTech degree from accredited university/college • Professional registration (Pr Eng/Pr Tech)
  • Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
  • To be able to communicate with Clients, and other project role players efficiently and professionally.
  • To be able to work under pressure, when requested, and be self-reliant
