A Day in the Life

The Process Engineer I will support manufacturing operations within the PDBF (Polymer Development and Bulk Fabrication) organization at Medtronic's North Haven, CT site, including a chemical manufacturing environment focused on the production of polymer-based materials used in suture manufacturing. In this role, you will partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Engineering teams to support the day-to-day performance of manufacturing processes, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and help ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

As an early-career engineer, you will gain hands-on experience supporting process development, equipment implementation, troubleshooting, validation, and new product introduction activities within a highly collaborative manufacturing environment. This role offers the opportunity to learn from experienced engineering professionals while building technical expertise in manufacturing operations, process optimization, and medical device production that ultimately supports life-changing therapies for patients around the world.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. 

  • Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area. 
  • Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques as well as production yields for existing products. 
  • Integrates equipment and material capabilities to meet process module target specifications and technology target specifications. 
  • Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules. 
  • Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible. 
  • May develop and conduct statistical analysis or recommend additions to document work. 
  • Leads the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations. 
  • This can include scouting and feasibility work, material selection, process and equipment selection, tooling / fixture and equipment installation and assessment of inputs, outputs and alignment to requirements. 
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques including the measurement systems. 
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 0+ years relevant experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, process development, laboratory, or engineering projects through internships, co-ops, research, or full-time employment. 
  • Experience analyzing data and applying problem-solving tools to identify and resolve process, equipment, or product-related issues. 
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other manufacturing industries. 
  • Experience supporting process validation, equipment qualification, engineering studies, or new product introduction (NPI) activities. 
  • Experience using engineering, statistical, or data analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, Excel, MATLAB, or similar software. 

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$71,200.00 - $106,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
