A Day in the Life
The Brooklyn Center manufacturing site plays a critical role in delivering medical technologies that support patients around the world. As part of the Supply Chain organization, the Production Planning function is responsible for aligning demand, capacity, inventory, and manufacturing execution to ensure operational continuity, support business growth, and enable reliable product availability.At Medtronic, we must work with a sense of purpose and ownership, knowing there is a human life on the other side of every decision.
This onsite position is based on-site in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and partners extensively with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, Demand Planning, and Commercial teams. The role serves as a key supply chain leader, influencing planning strategies and operational decisions across the manufacturing network.
The Principal Production Planner is a strategic supply chain leader responsible for shaping production and capacity planning decisions that drive manufacturing performance, supply continuity, and customer fulfillment. This role combines data-driven analysis, systems expertise, and cross-functional leadership to develop planning strategies, optimize resource utilization, mitigate supply risks, and support long-term business objectives. The individual in this role will serve as a trusted partner to operational leadership while helping elevate planning capabilities across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead production planning and capacity strategies that support business growth, manufacturing objectives, and uninterrupted product supply.
- Analyze demand, inventory, capacity, and production performance data to identify risks, opportunities, and strategic planning recommendations.
- Develop and execute master production schedules that balance customer demand, inventory targets, resource constraints, and operational priorities.
- Drive cross-functional decision-making by partnering with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, Purchasing, and Demand Planning stakeholders.
- Identify supply chain vulnerabilities and develop contingency plans to address material shortages, capacity constraints, and changing business requirements.
- Lead initiatives that improve planning processes, forecasting accuracy, scheduling effectiveness, inventory performance, and overall operational efficiency.
- Manage and troubleshoot planning processes and master data within SAP and Blue Yonder environments to support planning excellence.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to planning professionals while influencing best practices across the broader supply chain organization.
- Up to 10% of travel annually.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of experience in supply chain, production planning, manufacturing operations, demand planning, materials management, or related planning functions; or Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Experience developing and managing production schedules, capacity plans, material requirements, and inventory strategies within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience utilizing enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain planning systems to support operational planning and execution.
- Experience analyzing complex operational data and translating findings into business recommendations and actionable execution plans.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects, initiatives, or planning activities involving multiple stakeholder groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience utilizing SAP and Blue Yonder planning systems.
- Experience supporting medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading supply chain optimization, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.
- Experience with scenario planning, network planning, capacity modeling, and long-range supply planning strategies.
- Demonstrated success influencing business decisions and driving alignment across cross-functional leadership teams.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
