SLR Consulting · Hybrid · Brisbane, Australia

About the role

SLR Consulting APAC is an employee-driven international environmental and sustainability consultancy with a recognised reputation for providing high quality tailored services.  With over 1,100 staff across 23 technical disciplines in APAC, we offer consultancy advice and support on a wide range of strategic and site-specific issues to a diverse and growing base of business, regulatory and governmental clients.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Principal Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental Assessment, Closure and Management (EAC&M) team based in Brisbane. Our team provides a wide range of services, including project management, impact assessment, management plans, due diligence, and approvals across a range of sectors.

This role has a strong focus on the linear infrastructure sector especially in the Roads, Highways and Rail infrastructures. Our Brisbane EAC&M team is diverse, well regarded, and based in modern offices on Eagle Street with views of the river and surrounding bridges.

As a specialist in linear infrastructure approvals with strong experience with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), you will bring 15+ years of experience from consulting, government, or industry. You will balance project delivery with mentoring team members and building client relationships across the region. You will also collaborate with the APAC EAC&M group and other technical teams within our multidisciplinary business.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical leadership & delivery: Providing advice on best practice impact assessment, State and Federal approval requirements and environmental management, leading and contributing to multidisciplinary project delivery across sectors, and producing clear, concise, and high-quality reports.

  • Stakeholder engagement & collaboration: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal teams as well as working closely with other disciplines across the business.

  • Team and business contribution: Supporting team business planning and growth initiatives, reviewing technical work and mentoring more junior members, and undertaking occasional fieldwork as required.

Experience

We are looking for:

  • Qualifications and core experience: A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 15+ years of experience in impact assessment and management for State and Federal approvals.

  • Sector and technical expertise: Strong experience in linear infrastructure approvals, including TMR and Queensland Rail (QR) projects, and demonstrated knowledge of environmental legislation, policies, and guidelines (including the TMR Environmental Process Manual).

  • Leadership and commercial capability: Proven success in the infrastructure sector, including business development and client management, and experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.

  • Personal attributes: Strong attention to detail and excellent written & verbal communication skills, and Australian citizenship or current full working rights in Australia.

Our Benefits

We are most proud of our diverse, friendly and expert team, who work together to collaborate on projects to get the best possible outcome for our clients.

Whether you’re enjoying our flexible hybrid work environment, needing support studying whilst working, or at that time in your life where a supportive and generous parental leave scheme is key…   Our benefits aim to ensure that we cater for all.
