The Park Office Assistant Specialized provides customer service, souvenir inventory management, and financial and cashiering functions for park users so they can enjoy a healthy and exhilarating experience.

About Estrella Mountain Regional Park

These 19,840 acres of desert and mountains became the first regional park in the Maricopa County Park System in 1954. Estrella Mountain Regional Park is located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley. The park includes a seasonal wetland or riparian area during our winter and monsoon rains. The majority of the park remains pristine desert, very similar in appearance to the landscape seen by the first settlers and explorers. The Sierra Estrella range, or Star Mountains, was once within the Mexican border, and remained so until the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. Today, many amenities are available to visitors, including the only grass picnic area (65 acres) in the Maricopa County Park System.

At approximately 120,042 acres of parkland and 872-miles of trails, Maricopa County is home to one of the largest regional park systems in the nation. Currently, there are twelve parks in Maricopa County's regional park system. Each is unique and offers its visitors a wide variety of recreational opportunities.

The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department oversees the Maricopa Trail, a 315-mile trail system that encircles the valley and links all regional parks together. We Require

• Two years of experience performing clerical and administrative duties that includes in-person customer service
• High School Diploma or GED

Other Requirements

Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

We Also Value

• Cash handling experience using a computerized point-of-sale system

• Three or more years of clerical duties, including customer service and public contact experience

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Job Contributions

• Operates on the point of sale/reservation system and provides initial and ongoing training to volunteers and staff as needed
• Prepares and processes revenue, including counting cash and check intake for all revenue locations, and prepares reports and bank deposits daily for all park staff
• Greets park visitors and interprets park features for customers, including, but not limited to, park use areas, rules and regulations, fees, and special uses of park lands
• Responds to e-mails, phone calls, and in-person inquiries and concerns from the public, agencies, park personnel, or others regarding designated parks in a professional manner
• Oversees ordering and inventory functions of the Nature Center, contact station, and souvenir fund
• Prepares weekly/monthly park souvenir fund order; ensures order meets all department requirements
• Provides general administrative support to park staff
• Other Job Duties as assigned (e.g., light janitorial, litter collection, landscaping, exhibit display care, etc)

Working Conditions

• The work will occur in both an office and a field environment
• While in the office, the employee will be completing administrative work and will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
• While performing the duties & responsibilities in the field, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
• Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
