ABOUT THE TEAM

Omen is Anduril’s hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV) that packs the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes into a novel runway-independent Group 3 platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings, providing true runway independence and freedom of maneuver across defense and civilian domains. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, with an order of 50 systems representing a decisive investment that anchors production and accelerates the development of future systems.

ABOUT THE JOB

In this role, you will own the end-to-end mechanical development of novel, first-of-type Support Systems and Ground Servicing Equipment (GSE). You will take hardware from blank-sheet concept through detailed CAD, rapid prototyping, dynamic mechanism design, and production. Your scope spans launch and recovery systems, ruggedized expeditionary transport equipment, automated fueling and charging interfaces, and precision payload handling devices. We operate in a lean, high-ownership culture where you directly architect the physical product and move at the velocity required to field clean-sheet mechanical designs within months, not years.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Architect, model, and build novel Support Systems and Ground Servicing Equipment (GSE)—driving hardware from blank-sheet concept down-selection through CAD, physical prototyping, and fielded customer demonstrations.
• Rapidly develop full-scale mechanical mock-ups, functional prototypes, and vehicle interface elements to iteratively de-risk mechanical handling, launch, and recovery concepts.
• Design and execute lean, right-sized test plans to validate new mechanisms, efficiently capturing empirical learnings to drive immediate CAD and hardware design revisions.
• Design ruggedized systems tailored for austere land and dynamic maritime conditions, ensuring field survivability, high reliability, and intuitive human factors.
• Apply rigorous engineering practices to design out physical hazards at the component level (leveraging MIL-STD-882E principles), establishing both built-in mechanical safeguards and streamlined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Partner closely with Airframe, Powertrain, and Mission Systems teams to ensure vehicle-to-ground mechanical, electrical, and fluid interfaces are seamlessly integrated.
• Establish and maintain baseline configuration control across fast-evolving prototype builds, test fixtures, and field-trial assets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience owning the design, analysis, build, and functional test of complex physical hardware or mechanisms.
• Strong foundation in first-principles mechanical design, structural packaging, material selection (metals, composites, hardware), and 3D CAD modeling.
• Demonstrated familiarity with system safety practices, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation methodologies (e.g., MIL-STD-882E or equivalent industrial standards).
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude with an iterative, prototype-to-learn mindset and a high bias for action in fast-paced environments.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Direct experience developing Ground Support Equipment (GSE), launch/recovery mechanisms, mobile heavy equipment, or transport and packaging solutions for aerospace or defense systems.
• Operational experience in land or maritime expeditionary environments—supporting flight line operations, field maintenance, or complex tactical deployments.
• Familiarity with high-voltage battery systems, electric powertrains, or fluid/fueling delivery systems.
• Hands-on fabrication, trade, machining, or aircraft mechanic experience (A&P license or military maintenance MOS/AFSC).
• Prior military service or defense contracting background with unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
