Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer in our Vehicle Intelligence group, you will play a pivotal role in bringing cutting-edge, ruggedized camera systems and hardware platforms from initial concept to global deployment. In this dynamic position, you will drive product excellence by collaborating with cross-functional and overseas engineering teams, managing vital technical documentation, and overseeing prototype development and manufacturing execution. If you are passionate about design integrity, continuous quality improvement, and delivering high-reliability technologies for critical operations, we invite you to help power our next generation of hardware solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Database & Manufacturing Support: Maintain product technical databases, CAD files, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Bill of Materials (BOMs), and PLM system documentation. Provide direct mechanical engineering support to production lines and repair teams to resolve assembly, tooling, and manufacturing yield issues.
  • Supplier & Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with external suppliers and fabrication vendors to oversee part sourcing, tooling development, material selection, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
  • Overseas Mechanical Engineering Alignment: Collaborate daily with overseas mechanical engineering teams on mechanical design, enclosure development, structural modifications, and prototype validation.
  • Prototyping & Assembly Verification: Coordinate prototype builds, tooling sign-offs, and first-article inspections (FAI) with vendors and factory partners.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Support environmental, thermal, ingress protection, and vibration testing to ensure hardware durability in outdoor and vehicle-mounted environments. Conduct technical reviews and joint problem-solving sessions across time zones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 4 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing support for electronic hardware, camera systems, or ruggedized enclosures.
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Proven experience in DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing / Assembly) involving injection molding, die casting, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and die-cut gaskets/foams.
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques and fixture design.
  • Direct experience working with vendors on part specifications, tolerance stack-ups, and quality inspections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional and multi-site project coordination.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Hands-on experience with optomechanical assemblies, lens mounting (M12/C-mount), IR filters, and thermal dissipation systems.
  • Prior collaboration experience with international teams and manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with NPI (New Product Introduction) workflows, prototype build execution, and production line transfer.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to overseas manufacturing hubs is a plus.
