Key responsibilities

  • Developing the role of a Managing Associate Knowledge Lawyer in the New York office
  • Working with the Partners, Associates and BT members, identifying the best practices, knowhow and learning requirements of the US LAI Group to implement the agreed offering
  • Working closely with the Knowhow Partners and practice leaders, the role will ensure practices build and leverage knowledge for legal and business development purposes, and work in conjunction with research and information services.
  • Helping to design our Gen AI usage within the US practice. Helping to accelerate innovation initiatives to drive the adoption and integration of generative AI, legal technology, and workflow enhancements. The role will collaborate closely with attorneys, practice group leaders, and leadership to identify, pilot, and implement cutting-edge solutions that transform legal service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and enhance client outcomes.
  • Debriefing of lawyers on matters for best practices and knowhow information
  • Working with the Americas K&L Team on the policies to be applied in organizing the knowhow system
  • Generating, coordinating and supporting attorneys in the creation of model forms and precedents, and accompanying notes and memoranda; updating model forms and precedents to reflect changes in applicable laws, regulations, market standards and best practices
  • Creating new and amending existing manuals and precedents and associated documentation (e.g., drafting notes, special memoranda, checklists) in light of practice developments and legal changes
  • Critically reading items submitted for knowhow potential and ensuring that the document is indexed adequately
  • Assist in reviewing and developing established guidelines for knowhow content
  • Liaising with fee earners to ensure that knowhow continues to meet the practice area’s needs
  • Evaluating current process for collecting knowhow/precedents materials and recommending improvements
  • Promoting and encouraging fee earner submission to and use of knowhow/precedents systems
  • Identifying and circulating articles and other material relevant to the US LAI practice group
  • Providing content for practice area newsletters specifically as it relates to training, legal updates, market trends, etc.
  • Liaising with the Knowledge & Learning team to identify training needs
  • Developing and delivering legal training programs for fee earners in conjunction with the Knowledge & Learning team
  • Monitoring and communicating regarding external training opportunities (PLI)
  • Writing/updating training materials
  • Coordinating and leading content related to training, legal updates, and market trends for group meetings
  • Monitoring key clients to identify business development opportunities
  • Assisting marketing function by working to maintain up to date matter lists, summaries and practice profiles
  • Assisting fee earners with the preparation and review of client publications
  • Assisting fee earners with the preparation of articles for publication in professional journals
  • Attending Knowledge Lawyer meetings
  • Organizing group meetings
  • Ongoing education in core areas as agreed with Partners from time to time

Qualifications & experience

  • Self-starter, keen to take ownership of the role and develop it within the context of the service required.
  • Knowledge and interest in AI technology and evolving AI landscape
  • High degree of initiative
  • Articulate, excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the confidence to deal with all levels of staff
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Desire to develop an understanding of the firm and its information and knowhow needs
  • US qualified lawyer (NY or DC) with a minimum of four years post qualification experience

  • Up to date in terms of market developments

The base salary range offered for this role will be between $280,000 and $320,000 and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, performance, qualifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the firm. The total compensation package for this position may include overtime pay, discretionary bonuses and other benefits.
