The Oregon Department of Justice’s Trial Division is seeking a Legal Support Services Supervisor 2 to join our team in either the Salem or Portland office. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and direct supervision to the legal secretaries and paralegals supporting both the Corrections Litigation Unit and the Civil Litigation Section. Additionally, this position will supervise the Legal Support Services Supervisor 1, indirectly overseeing the professional support staff in the Criminal and Collateral Remedies Section, Special Litigation Unit, and Federal Oversight Unit. You’ll direct the daily operations of a fast‑paced legal office by managing workflow, setting performance expectations, and ensuring cases progress efficiently. Your leadership will drive exceptional support for our attorneys and reinforce consistent, high‑quality operations across all sections.

Job Duties (in part)
- Supervise a multidisciplinary legal support team, including a subordinate supervisor, with full responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and discipline.
- Identify training needs, provide development opportunities, and contribute to Trial Division–wide training aligned with strategic goals.
- Collaborate with Trial Division leadership to resolve employee issues and support division-wide staffing and planning efforts.
- Oversee clerical, administrative, and paraprofessional work for assigned sections, ensuring compliance with laws, rules, and legal procedures.
- Review paraprofessional work, documentation, evidence, and exhibits for accuracy and legal sufficiency; participate in case staffing with attorneys.
- Manage workload distribution, coordinate workflow with courts and partner agencies, and contribute to division-wide workload planning.
- Review paraprofessional billing, monitor office budget activity with leadership, compile data, prepare management reports, and recommend resource allocations.
- Perform administrative tasks during peak periods or urgent needs and assist with complex or sensitive operational work to maintain continuity of services.

Required Experience

- Four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR one year of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field, AND
- Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
- Preference may be given to those with two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional.

- Knowledge and experience in Civil and/or Corrections Litigation.
- Experience providing leadership to both supervisory and represented employees.
- Direct high level management or supervision of legal support professionals.
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization effectively and professionally.
- Professional experience working collaboratively with a team.
- Experience assessing and coaching individuals to meet production and work quality goals.
- Experience collaborating, teambuilding, troubleshooting, and finding solutions to operational needs in a team environment.
- Proficiency in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office.
- Experience providing accuracy and attention to detail in work performance.
