About this Legal Counsel, Consumer Credit role at Viabill
ViaBill is a Danish fintech company redefining the way people shop online and in-store with simple and transparent Buy Now, Pay Later solutions. As a regulated credit provider active in Denmark and Spain, we work daily with consumer credit, payments, AML, and data protection.
As Legal Counsel, you will be the go-to legal partner for the business, providing practical legal advice, following regulatory developments, reviewing and drafting contracts and customer documentation as our products evolve. You will work closely with management and our central functions (product, commercial, risk, finance, compliance, and customer support), and act as the primary counterpart to our external legal advisors, balancing what is handled in-house and what is outsourced. You report to the CFO and are based in our central Copenhagen office.
You join as consumer credit rules are being rewritten, with the new Consumer Credit Directive applying from November 2026, and as we develop new credit products. You will have direct exposure to leadership and real influence on how our products are designed and launched.
About you:
You hold a Danish law degree.
5+ years of legal experience, including at least 3 years at a law firm in banking and finance or financial regulatory practice, ideally combined with in-house experience at a bank, credit provider, regulated fintech, or regulated payments company.
Proven, hands-on experience drafting consumer credit or financial services agreements. This is a must-have.
Solid knowledge of Danish and EU consumer credit regulation, including the Danish Credit Agreements Act, the new Consumer Credit Directive (CCD2), and the Marketing Practices Act, and working familiarity with payment services, AML, and GDPR.
You actively follow regulatory developments in consumer finance and can translate them into concrete actions for the business.
Confident drafting and reviewing commercial contracts.
Pragmatic and business-minded: you give clear answers with a view on risk, not just memos.
You work independently, prioritise well, and know when to escalate challenges.
Fluent in Danish and English, written and spoken.
What you will do:
Monitor the legal and regulatory landscape for consumer finance in Denmark and the EU, and in Spain with local counsel, flag upcoming changes early, and assess their impact on our products, agreements, and processes, so that ViaBill is prepared ahead of new requirements.
Maintain and update our consumer credit agreements, customer terms and conditions, and pre-contractual information when products or regulations change.
Support our relationships with bank and funding partners on legal and regulatory matters, including partner oversight, audits, and outsourcing requirements.
Draft and review commercial contracts, including merchant, partner, vendor, outsourcing, and data processing agreements.
Provide legal review and sign-off on product launches, product changes, customer communications, and marketing.
Act as the primary counterpart to our external legal advisors: scope and brief matters, and challenge advice.
Advise management and central functions on legal questions arising in day-to-day operations.
Provide legal support to compliance on regulatory matters, including interaction with the Danish FSA (Finanstilsynet), inspections, and audits.
Develop our legal processes and tools, including contract templates, a contract register, and a clear process for legal requests.
Support the legal aspects of our operations in Spain in cooperation with local counsel.
What is in it for you:
Competitive compensation package.
Direct exposure to leadership and real influence on product and commercial decisions.
A broad mandate across consumer credit, regulatory, product and commercial work.
