About this Lecturer/Snr Lecturer – (Experience Design -Interior) - Sch of Design & Media role at Singapore Public Service

Singapore Public Service · Onsite · Nanyang Polytechnic

[What the role is]

As end users become more discerning, design is no longer confined to a single space, product or interface. It is holistic, connected and experiential.

We are looking for a designer with a strong background in Interior Design or Spatial Design who is passionate about creating meaningful experiences across spaces, products, services and interactions. You see spaces not merely as physical environments, but as experiences that influence how people engage, connect, navigate and interact.

[What you will be working on]

In this role, you will shape the next generation of experience designers through teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, industry collaboration and applied projects. You will bring an Interior Design and Spatial Design lens to the Diploma in Experience Design, helping students understand how human-centred design, placemaking, emerging technologies and spatial storytelling come together to create memorable and meaningful experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lessons and develop curriculum, learning resources and assessments in experience design, covering design research, human-centred design, design thinking, ideation, visualisation, prototyping and design development across products, spaces, services and interactions.
  • Bring Interior Design and Spatial Design expertise into multidisciplinary learning experiences, helping students understand how physical environments shape user experiences and behaviour.
  • Provide thought leadership and domain expertise in Interior and Spatial Design within the broader Experience Design curriculum.
  • Guide students in applying spatial planning, user journey mapping, placemaking, environmental psychology, materiality and spatial storytelling within an experience design context.
  • Mentor and supervise students through industry projects, exhibitions, competitions and multidisciplinary collaborations involving spaces, products, services and digital experiences.
  • Lead or support industry collaborations, consultancy projects and applied research initiatives related to experience design, spatial innovation and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum, learning activities and assessments to ensure alignment with evolving industry practices and future design trends.
  • Keep curriculum and learning experiences current through developments in sustainability, inclusive design, smart environments, immersive and XR-enabled experiences, digital twins and Generative AI for design exploration.
  • Build and sustain strategic industry partnerships to support applied projects, internships, consultancy opportunities, CET initiatives and graduate employability.
  • Support course management, academic administration, student recruitment, outreach activities and school-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Develop, deliver and support Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes and industry capability development initiatives related to experience design, spatial design and emerging design practices.

[What we are looking for]

  • Relevant qualification in Interior Design, Spatial Design, Architecture or a related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Strong industry portfolio demonstrating successful spatial, environmental or experiential design projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the end-to-end design process, including research, concept development, spatial planning, design development, documentation, prototyping and presentation.
  • Strong understanding of spatial design principles, user-centred design, materiality, construction considerations and experiential environments.
  • Ability to connect spatial design with products, services, interactions and digital technologies to create cohesive user experiences.
  • Awareness of current and emerging practices in sustainable design, inclusive design, smart spaces, immersive environments and experience-led placemaking.
  • Passion for education, mentoring and nurturing the next generation of designers.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and project management skills.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, coaching, training or leading design teams will be an advantage.
