Job Description

Summary:  

This is a production underwriting position responsible for underwriting and processing assigned lines of business.  They serve as trainers and/or mentors for less experienced team members. They may be expected to complete higher volumes of work and learn multiple lines of business. Associate Underwriting Specialist could also have an expert knowledge of the personal lines policy administration systems and processes in order to service and underwrite policies and accounts. Independently provide technical support to the team as questions arise from Associate Underwriters during the daily policy/account service work.    
 

 

Employees in this role are required to accurately record all hours worked and submit timesheets in accordance with company policy. Overtime may be assigned as business needs dictate, and employees are expected to work overtime when required. 

 

This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours. 
 

  • Coaches Associate Underwriters who require direction with the review of policy referrals and/or the handling of policy transactions.  

  • Sustains a larger volume of work items including special projects and/or challenging state assignments. 

  • Handles the manual conversion of policies between different policy administration systemsThis involves manual rating of premium, policy endorsements, drivers, etc. 

  • Assists Associate Underwriters and Underwriters who require assistance or direction when responding to correspondence received from agents or third parties. 

  • Maintains established agent relationships for policies that he/she is responsible for servicing. 

  • Develops written correspondence that can be utilized as a guide for professional communication when working with agents to resolve policy service issues. 

  • Identifies system and procedural inefficiencies and bring forward a potential solution to management. 

  • Demonstrates expertise and serves as a resource on project teams at the department and company level  

  • Participates in User Acceptance testing as new systems are designed and deployed. 

 

Qualifications / Experience Required: 

  •   Associate degree.  

  • Equivalent experience considered in place of collegiate studies 

  •   Two to four years of experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Four to six insurance courses through the Insurance Institute of America, preferred
