About the Role

As an Industrial Maintenance Technician – Automation & Mechanical, you are
responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated material handling equipment and facility automation systems within a highly automated distribution center. This is a hands-on maintenance role focused on maximizing equipment reliability and uptime through mechanical, electrical, and automation troubleshooting.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on conveyors, sortation equipment, motors, gearboxes, VFDs, sensors, PLC-controlled equipment, and industrial control systems while partnering closely with Operations and Engineering to support safe, reliable, and eAicient operations.

This position is ideal for experienced industrial maintenance technicians who enjoy solving complex equipment issues in a fast-paced automated environment. While automation experience is important, the majority of this role is hands-on industrial mechanical and electrical maintenance.

What You'll Do

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated material handling equipment including conveyors, sortation systems, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and related automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical equipment to quickly restore production and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and replace components including motors, motor starters, contactors, overloads, relays, sensors, VFDs, actuators, and other industrial control devices.
  • Perform equipment inspections, machine adjustments, alignments, component replacements, and production changeovers.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and safely return systems to operation through structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Utilize Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs to troubleshoot equipment faults, verify machine operation, and support equipment recovery.
  • Monitor PLC inputs, outputs, alarms, and interlocks to identify equipment issues and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Support equipment commissioning, validation, startup, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Engineering on controls modifications, automation improvements, and equipment upgrades.
  • Support Siemens PLC troubleshooting where applicable.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and accurately document repairs using CMMS.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and reduce repeat failures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, safety, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime and operational excellence.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety standards, and company safety procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements while working on energized and non-energized equipment.
  • Promote a safe working environment by identifying hazards and following established maintenance best practices.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience supporting automated manufacturing, distribution, or material handling equipment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills including conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, rollers, motors, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems.
  •  
  • Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting skills including contactors, overloads, relays, motor starters, VFDs, sensors, and industrial control panels.
  •  Experience maintaining automated material handling equipment (MHE) or production equipment in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Experience using CMMS to document maintenance activities and equipment history.
  • Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000 / RSLogix) for troubleshooting equipment faults.
  •  Experience using HMIs to diagnose equipment issues and monitor machine status. 
  • Familiarity with Siemens PLCs (TIA Portal/Step 7) is considered an asset.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial communication networks is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting automated distribution centers, fulfillment centers, or high volume manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, sortation equipment, robotic cells, automated packaging equipment, or warehouse automation.
  • Industrial Electrician (309A/442A), Industrial Mechanic (Millwright 433A), or equivalent industrial maintenance experience is considered an asset.
  •  Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and equipment reliability.
