Job Description Summary:

The Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center will provide diagnostic expertise in head and neck/ENT pathology and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. The role includes diagnostic sign-out of surgical pathology cases, participation in frozen section services, and active involvement in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition, the Assistant Professor will engage in scholarly activity, research collaboration, and departmental academic initiatives.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is experiencing rapid growth and has established a subspecialization practice model, performing more than 7 million tests and accessioning over 65,000 surgical pathology cases annually with a large case variety. There is an active ENT surgery department with over 2,500 ENT and Thyroid cases last calendar year. The Department and The University of Kansas Health System are an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing robust opportunities for clinical and translational research both within the Department and across the Medical Center.

We are seeking an individual with strong diagnostic skills and subspecialty experience or fellowship training in ENT and Thyroid pathology. In addition to ENT diagnostic sign out, the successful candidate will participate in 1-2 additional subspecialty areas (thoracic pathology would be desirable, but other subspecialties will be considered), general surgical pathology frozen section services, and contribute to medical student, resident, and fellow training, and develop research projects reflective of their own interests.

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.

The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.

• Contribute to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.

• Develop and support clinical and translational research projects in collaboration with departmental and institutional partners.

• Engage in departmental and divisional conferences, teaching rounds, and academic activities.

• Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain expertise in head and neck pathology and related fields.

Required Qualifications

Education: MD, DO or equivalent.
