- Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
- Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
Your responsibilities
- Initiate and develop an R&D stream focused on fuel and fusible materials integration into experimental targets for in-house use.
- Investigate hydrogen isotope exchange reactions relevant to fuel materials, through hands-on laboratory work and/or modeling and simulation.
- Materials characterization: chemical and elemental analysis, including characterisation of hydrogen isotopes and light elements (atomic number < 9).
- Coordinating multi-partner consortia and associated reporting: build and maintain collabo-rations with academic and industrial partners;
- Drafting of public funding applications.
- Mentor junior scientists and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Documentation and reporting: write and oversee technical and safety documentation, pro-tocol development, and contribute to internal, external, and funding-body reports.
What you bring
- 8+ years of experience in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a re-lated field, with demonstrated seniority in an R&D environment.
- A background in isotope exchange chemistry, from experimental or computational work.
- Experience in analytical techniques for hydrogen isotopes and light elements (atomic number < 9), such as ToF-SIMS, nano-SIMS, APT, Raman spectroscopy, NRA, ERDA, NMR, FTIR, GDOES or equivalent.
- Practical experience working with processes under inert atmosphere for sensitive or re-active materials.
- A track record leading or contributing to multi-partner research or industrial collabora-tions.
- Experience leading or contributing to public funding applications, with a track record of awarded proposals.
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior scientists and engineers in an ex-perimental environment with evolving priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical writing for proposals and reports.
What sets you apart
- Experience in fusion, plasma physics, inertial confinement fusion (ICF), or energy systems.
- Experience with vacuum and gas-handling systems for hydrogen isotope work.
- Publication record or recognized expertise in hydrogen isotope chemistry or hydrogen stor-age materials.
- Awareness of tritium-specific handling, safety, and regulatory considerations, even without direct hands-on tritium experience.
