‎ Job Responsibilities

Cloud Strategy & Architecture

  • Design and maintain enterprise Azure cloud architecture standards, patterns, and governance frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain Azure reference architecture that can built by engineering teams and operationalized by support organizations.
  • Evaluate emerging Azure technologies and recommend adoption strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure architectural alignment with enterprise standards for scalability, availability, resiliency, security, and cost optimization.
  • Define cloud landing zones, subscription strategies, management group hierarchies, and governance models.
  • Lead architecture reviews and approvals through participation in the Architecture Review Board (ARB).
  • Serve as the technical authority for infrastructure-related architectural decisions.
  • Define hybrid architecture standards governing how on-premises data center, colocation, and Azure environments interoperate — including connectivity, identity, data placement, and workload placement decision criteria.
  • Maintain working knowledge of other major public cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and provide comparative guidance on service equivalency, workload placement, portability, and cost when multi-cloud scenarios arise.

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Lead cloud infrastructure due diligence activities during acquisitions.
  • Design integration and migration strategies for acquired organizations.
  • Develop Azure tenant integration, migration, and coexistence architectures.
  • Define cloud onboarding frameworks that accelerate M&A integration efforts.
  • Assess inherited cloud environments — including AWS and Google Cloud workloads acquired through M&A — and establish remediation, consolidation, and modernization roadmaps.
  • Lead infrastructure consolidation and rationalization initiatives.
  • Assess acquired on-premises environments — data centers, servers, storage, virtualization, Active Directory, and backup — and define the migration path to the target hybrid or cloud state.

Azure Infrastructure Architecture

  • Design enterprise solutions across:
    • Azure Compute
    • Azure Networking
    • Azure Storage
    • Azure Identity Services
    • Azure Security Services
    • Azure Monitoring and Observability
    • Azure Backup and Disaster Recovery
    • Azure Governance
  • Design highly available and fault-tolerant architecture utilizing:
    • Availability Zones
    • Regional Redundancy
    • Disaster Recovery Strategies
    • Multi-region architecture
    • Business Continuity Planning

On-Premises & Hybrid Infrastructure Architecture

  • Design and govern on-premises infrastructure architecture across compute, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), SAN/NAS/object storage, backup and recovery, and data center facilities.
  • Own hybrid identity architecture — Active Directory, Entra ID, directory synchronization, federation, and DNS/DHCP — ensuring consistent authentication and access control across environments.
  • Define hybrid connectivity architecture, including ExpressRoute, site-to-site VPN, network segmentation, routing, and firewall integration between data center and cloud.
  • Establish workload placement and rationalization criteria — retain, rehost, replatform, refactor, or retire — with clear cost, risk, and dependency analysis.
  • Architect migration approaches for on-premises workloads moving to Azure, including wave planning, dependency mapping, cutover, rollback, and validation.
  • Define end-of-life and end-of-support refresh strategy for legacy infrastructure, sequencing modernization against cloud migration timelines.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Establish Infrastructure-as-Code standards and architectural patterns.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, DevOps
  • Define reusable infrastructure modules and deployment frameworks.
  • Promote automation-first principles across infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Partner with engineering teams to establish CI/CD pipelines for cloud infrastructure deployments.
  • Ensure configuration consistency, repeatability, and compliance through automation.

Security & Compliance

  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity teams to design secure cloud environments utilizing Zero Trust principles.
  • Ensure architecture alignment with regulatory, compliance, and security requirements.
  • Design solutions leveraging:
    • Microsoft Defender for Cloud
    • Microsoft Sentinel
    • Azure Policy
    • Azure Blueprints
    • Conditional Access
    • Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
    • Key Vault
  • Participate in threat modeling and architectural risk assessments.
  • Ensure security controls are integrated into design patterns from inception.

Operational Excellence

  • Design enterprise architecture with operational supportability as a core requirement.
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure smooth solution transitions into production support.
  • Define monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability requirements.
  • Establish performance, scalability, and reliability standards.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization and FinOps best practices.

Leadership Initiative & Mentoring

  • Mentor engineers, architects, and technical leads.
  • Promote a collaborative, coaching-oriented culture across technology teams.
  • Facilitate architecture reviews, design workshops, and technical strategy discussions.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business-focused recommendations for senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Build alignment across technical teams, business units, and external partners.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104) or Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305) certification.
  • 10+ years of progressive infrastructure engineering, architecture, or cloud experience.
  • 5+ years architecting enterprise-scale Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale on-premises to cloud migration and modernization initiatives — including discovery, dependency mapping, wave planning, cutover, and post-migration validation.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and enterprise integration activities.
  • Experience participating in Architecture Review Boards or enterprise governance bodies.
  • Experience developing enterprise reference architectures and technology standards.
  • Direct experience operating in a HIPAA-regulated healthcare environment; working familiarity with HITRUST CSF and the infrastructure controls required to satisfy audit requirements.
  • Experience translating technical complexity into clear, outcome-oriented language for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Deep experience in Microsoft Azure Core Services, Identity & Tenant Architecture, Automation & DevOps, Security and Observability/Operations.
  • Deep on-premises infrastructure architecture experience — compute, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), SAN/NAS storage, backup and disaster recovery, Active Directory, and data center networking.
  • Experience designing hybrid architecture connecting on-premises environments to Azure, including hybrid identity and hybrid network connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of at least one additional public cloud platform (AWS or Google Cloud), including core compute, networking, storage, and identity services, sufficient to assess acquired environments and advise on workload placement or migration to Azure.

Preferred

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring platforms (Azure Monitor, Sentinel, Defender for Cloud, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation tooling (Terraform, Bicep, PowerShell, Ansible).
  • Experience in multi-entity or post-M&A environments with tenant consolidation or rationalization exposure.
  • ITIL Foundation or equivalent ITSM training.
  • Experience with data center exit, consolidation, or colocation migration programs.
  • AWS or Google Cloud certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, Google Professional Cloud Architect) or demonstrated hands-on delivery experience on those platforms.
