You will serve as a trusted technical partner to customers, helping keep their systems operating reliably and supporting their research and production needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration.
  • Diagnose and repair instrument and subsystem issues, including component-level problems where appropriate; support customers and other field service engineers through resolution.
  • Travel, sometimes on short notice or outside standard hours, to address service needs and assist colleagues.
  • Build constructive working relationships with customers, system users, application scientists, and Thermo Fisher teams; communicate clearly and manage expectations, including during high-pressure situations.
  • Train customers and users in system operation and maintenance, and contribute to team training as a technical resource.
  • Complete accurate field service reports promptly and provide useful feedback to product quality teams.
  • Help update and correct system documentation, and document or recommend solutions for unusual or recurring problems.
  • Work in accordance with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 4i Values and maintain appropriate confidentiality for customer and company information.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree or technical/undergraduate training in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Typically 3–5 years of relevant hands-on technical experience, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Clear interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer-service skills, including the ability to remain professional under pressure.
  • Proficiency in a Windows software environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including regionally and internationally as business needs require.
  • Valid passport.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lb (18 kg) without assistance.

Preferred

  • Experience installing, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instruments such as SEM, TEM, FIB, probers Equipment, XPS, or similar systems.
  • Experience with ultra-high-vacuum (UHV), high-voltage, or other vacuum-based systems.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical or system schematics.
  • Experience diagnosing complex systems and subsystems down to the component level.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role includes work at customer locations, in office settings, and in laboratory or cleanroom environments. Some sites require personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gowns, gloves, lab coats, hearing protection, coveralls, hoods, hairnets, or safety footwear. Work may involve hazardous or toxic materials and areas where chemical-based allergens are present.
