What is the opportunity?

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Financial Crimes Program Management Office (PMO) to lead the planning, governance and execution of a complex portfolio of Financial Crimes initiatives.

The Director will work closely with senior executives, Financial Crimes leadership, Technology, Business and AML Operations, Risk, Data, and other enterprise partners to establish priorities, manage interdependencies, identify delivery risks and provide clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.

A working knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions, transaction monitoring, client screening, financial crime risk management and/or regulatory compliance is highly desirable.

What will you do?

Financial Crimes Portfolio & Program Management

  • Lead the Financial Crimes PMO team of senior and junior project managers and business analysts, and establish consistent program and portfolio management standards across the department.
  • Oversee a portfolio of complex, enterprise-wide Financial Crimes initiatives, ensuring alignment to strategic priorities, regulatory obligations and risk appetite.
  • Establish clear program objectives, scope, milestones, dependencies, critical paths, resources and success measures.
  • Ensure initiatives have clear executive sponsorship, accountable owners and measurable outcomes.
  • Challenge project plans and assumptions to ensure commitments are realistic and achievable.
  • Drive integrated planning across business, technology, operations, data and risk functions.

Governance & Reporting

  • Design and lead Financial Crimes governance forums, including executive and working group steering committees and portfolio reviews.
  • Provide senior leadership with concise, forward-looking reporting on portfolio health, material risks, issues, dependencies, decisions and delivery confidence.
  • Work with project managers to provide oversight on application development and pro fees funding, challenge estimates and forecast, and escalate budgetary concerns and constraints

Financial Crimes Transformation & Delivery Risk Management

  • Establish a consistent framework for identifying, assessing and managing program risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Partner with Financial Crimes leadership to translate strategic priorities into executable roadmaps.
  • Ensure material delivery risks are surfaced early and have clear mitigation and escalation strategies.
  • Challenge teams where delivery is off-track and facilitate recovery planning.
  • Identify systemic issues affecting multiple initiatives and develop enterprise-level interventions.

What do you need to succeed?

Must- have

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in program management, transformation, portfolio management, PMO leadership or a related discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Management, Information Systems, Risk, Compliance, Public Policy or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex, multi-year programs or portfolios involving multiple business and technology stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to establish governance, operating models, delivery frameworks and portfolio management disciplines.
  • Strong experience managing dependencies, risks, issues, resources, budgets, timelines and benefits.
  • Strong understanding of program lifecycle management and delivery methodologies.
  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience within a large financial institution, bank, consulting firm or highly regulated organization.
  • Experience leading Financial Crimes, AML, sanctions, compliance, risk or regulatory transformation programs.
  • Experience working with regulators or delivering regulatory commitments/remediation.
  • Experience establishing or transforming a PMO.
  • Experience managing portfolios with significant technology, data and operational components.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Finance, Risk Management, Technology, Management or a related field.
  • Professional Certifications: Program Management Professional certification. CAMS or equivalent AML/Financial Crimes certification
